Three Aerospike-led sessions at DataWeek shine spotlight on the role of NoSQL database and key-value store technology in addressing the demands of today’s real-time, Web-scale consumer-facing applications
Mountain View, CA – September 19, 2012 – Unprecedented volumes of structured and unstructured data are being generated at high velocity via new consumer channels and touch-points. Now innovative enterprises are capitalizing on this information to personalize their interactions with consumers in real time. At the DataWeek 2012 conference, Aerospike (formerly Citrusleaf) will lead a panel of IT executives from three of these enterprises, who will share their best practices for implementing real-time big data management and analytics to enable immediate Web-scale interactions with consumers. The panel is one of three sessions Aerospike will present at DataWeek, which runs September 24-27, 2012, at the SPUR Urban Center in San Francisco, CA.
Rules Vs. Reality: The Roles of Big Data, September 25
In a plenary session, Aerospike CEO Bruce Fram will discuss how no one database can address the new generation of consumer-facing applications where the value lies in real-time responses based on the reality of what users are doing now. Instead these applications are best served by a combined use of NoSQL, Hadoop, SQL, and data analytic platforms.
When: Tuesday, September 25, 1:00 p.m.
Where: SPUR Urban Center, 2nd Floor, Main Hall
Enterprise IT Panel: Real-Time Big Data Analytics, September 26
Russell Sullivan, Aerospike principal engineer, will be joined by Michael Yudin, adMarketplace CTO; Alex Hooshmand, BlueKai chief strategy officer and senior vice president of operations; and Andrei Dunca, LiveRail CTO. Together, they will discuss how personalized online consumer interactions require businesses to reliably receive a query, analyze data, and respond in 100 milliseconds or less—even as they process hundreds of thousands of transactions per second (TPS). They also will review how they have implemented the Aerospike real-time database and key-value store in combination with Hadoop, SQL, and analytic platforms to gain immediate, actionable insights that were unavailable using those three technologies alone.
When: Wednesday, September 26, 3:00 p.m.
Where: SPUR Urban Center, 4th Floor, Room 1
Integrating Aerospike and Real-Time Bidding, September 26
Brian Bulkowski, Aerospike founder and CTO, will lead a workshop demonstrating how the Aerospike real-time NoSQL database and key-value store can integrate easily with real-time bidding engines like OpenX to respond with actionable insights in milliseconds. The session also will provide an overview of how the Aerospike database is architected with flash-optimized hardware to deliver predictable performance of 250k TPS per node, sub-millisecond query responses, and 100% uptime—while managing terabytes of data and billions of objects.
When: Wednesday, September 26, 4:00 p.m.

New case study examines how Contextin consistently and reliably delivers algorithm-based ad pricing decisions in milliseconds
Mountain View, CA – September 19, 2012 – Sometimes winning means changing the rules. That is exactly what Contextin aims to do with its revolutionary performance advertising platform, which relies on an automated discovery engine. A new case study published today by Aerospike explores how Contextin ensures the 100% availability and real-time delivery of this critical data by using the Aerospike NoSQL database. The full Contextin case study is available at: http://www.aerospike.com/why-aerospike/customers.
The Contextin technology goes beyond standard variables, looking at hundreds of deeper attributes in order to find the granular signals that actually influence performance, and applying that learning to every impression served. This is facilitated using its proprietary spatial signal measurement methodology, which is applied to more than 10 billion ad impressions every day. Contextin is able to dynamically infer data correlations among these non-traditional attributes on an impression-by-impression basis, and it then uses real-time bidding (RTB) to price and buy placements accordingly.
The case study from Aerospike reviews how Contextin first tested and then implemented the Aerospike database in each of its four data centers to help achieve dramatically higher ad performance, optimize costs, and capture previously untapped audiences. Today, the Aerospike database provides Contextin with sub-millisecond latency and the ability to process queries consistently within 5 milliseconds. Other key benefits of the Aerospike database include:
* Reliably handles 100,0000 queries per second (QPS) per each server in the cluster.
* Enables real-time replication and rapid synchronization between Contextin’s four data centers across the US and Europe.
* Ensures business continuity and availability even if one of Contextin’s data centers experiences a failure.
* Minimizes IT overhead via built-in and automated self-management capabilities.
“At Contextin, we make more than 10 billion pricing decisions every day, and our system looks at hundreds of parameters for every single impression for every single ad opportunity,” said Yoav Naveh, Contextin co-founder and CEO. “With Aerospike, we are realizing reliable real-time access to that data to make the optimized pricing decisions that are critical to our success. Simply put, Aerospike’s technology and service stand above the rest.”
“With its algorithmic approach to real-time bidding, Contextin is effectively rewriting the rules of performance-based advertising,” said Brian Bulkowski, Aerospike founder and CTO. “We are excited by Contextin’s success in using our Aerospike NoSQL database to help maximize the performance of online campaigns through real-time processing of big data in new and innovative ways.”
About Contextin
Contextin provides a groundbreaking performance advertising platform that discovers untapped audiences by going beyond conventional static targeting parameters. Our technology focuses on hundreds of deeper attributes, finding the granular signals that actually influence performance. With every impression served, our platform uses its spatial measurement methodology to perpetually discover more about what drives conversions, then applies that learning across new audiences and inventory. Our novel approach, coupled with laser sharp bidding, results in dramatically higher ad performance than DSPs or ad networks without requiring costly third-party data or time-consuming human optimization. What’s more, our clients can choose to pay on a CPC or CPA basis.
Contextin is a privately held company headquartered in New York City with R&D in Tel Aviv. For more information, visit www.contextin.com.

Jelastic Inc., the company behind the next-generation Java hosting platform of the same name (http://jelastic.com), launches its highly anticipated PHP hosting service in the fourth quarter of 2012. The unique benefit of PHP running on Jelastic is vertical scalability: no more need to overpay for large servers or suffer from insufficient resources. As the load grows, the application gets more resources automatically and immediately.
The Jelastic platform offers users a fundamentally different approach to cloud hosting, being simple enough for novices to create and deploy their projects in a few clicks, but at the same time requiring no code changes for scaling and providing enough power options for experienced programmers.
What are the key features of PHP on Jelastic?
The most innovative feature is the automated vertical scaling. Jelastic automatically increases or reduces the CPU and RAM for an application as it monitors application loads in real-time. This feature guarantees that users never overpay for unused resources; and it saves them time because there is no need for manual adjustments or architectural changes. As the application load goes up or down, resources are allocated immediately and automatically! It is also possible to specify resource caps to prevent unexpected or high bills.
In addition to the automated vertical scaling, applications hosted on Jelastic can be scaled horizontally. With just a couple of clicks the user can change the number of nodes from 1 to 8 (the actual upper limit is determined by the hoster).
Secondly, Jelastic is just easy: users don't have to do any installations or configurations, and a huge selection of software stacks is ready to go. At the same time the platform is highly efficient: each application or database server is a separate virtual machine, so that the user gets the necessary security and performance isolation. Users can use any networks ports that are needed, get public IP addresses, tune configuration files, reboot servers at any time and much more. Jelastic's beautiful graphical user interface ensures that anyone can get started with the platform in minutes.
The PHP Dev/Test/Production life cycle is greatly benefited from cloud hosting on Jelastic. Once an application is uploaded to Jelastic, the user can test, scale and deploy it to production without any code changes, clone environments including database content for troubleshooting or modifications, swap environments (for example staging and production) and define permissions for each environment for different team members.
Another competitive advantage of Jelastic is its versatility. Whole PHP project can be easily deployed with the platform's automated function (.tar, .tar.gz, .zip and .bzip2 formats are supported).
Other important features of Jelastic PHP cloud hosting:
- Choice of Apache or NGINX application server;
- All key PHP extensions for Apache and NGINX are available (the customer can add additional modules if necessary);
- Multiple SQL and NoSQL database options (MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, MongoDB and CouchDB) and remote access to databases;
- The user can access configuration files and make any changes to PHP settings;
- The user can select a PHP version and easily switch from one to another;
- Git/SVN revision control system makes it possible to commit the code and deploy it straight to the environment;
- Built-in Memcached node for advanced caching;
The free beta of PHP cloud hosting service on Jelastic will be launched in the fourth quarter of 2012; its commercial launch is scheduled for the first quarter of 2013.
You can submit your email address to http://php.jelastic.com, if you would like to be notified when the free beta of Jelastic PHP cloud hosting service is launched.
About Jelastic:
Jelastic, Inc., a startup company based in Palo Alto, Calif., makes the Java server hosting platform for developers and hosting service providers. Jelastic is the only PaaS offering designed specifically for hosting service providers to deploy and make available to their customers. Jelastic automatically scales Java applications and allocates server resources required by applications, thus delivering the true next generation Java cloud computing. You can learn more about Jelastic or sign-up for the service for free at Jelastic.com.

What's New in this Release?
Saaspose development team is proud to announce the new release of Saaspose.Barcode. Saaspose.Barcode provides two approaches used to create barcode. Firstly, you can upload the desired file to Saaspose Storage using Saaspose REST API. Then you can generate barcode image using Saaspose.Barcode REST examples. You can also use Saaspose.Barcode SDK examples for generating the barcode image from the file uploaded on Saaspose Storage for different languages like .NET, Java, Ruby and PHP. Another way is to directly generate barcode image on your local system using Saaspose.Barcode REST API and SDKs without saving the file to Saaspose Storage. You can use the file path or stream to generate barcode image using Saaspose.Barcode REST API. The file is sent through request stream to Saaspose servers, processed and the output is sent back as response stream. In this case, the file is not saved on Saaspose Storage. It is a single call process that uploads the file to server, generates the barcode image, sends the generated image as response stream and deletes the source file from the server. Please refer to Saaspose.Barcode documentation for more details on its features. So, with this simple set of features you can generate barcode image either from local file or stream in the cloud. Being a platform independent API, Saaspose.Barcode can work with other File Format APIs across any platform using any programming language.
Newly added documentation pages and articles

New case study examines how So-net Media Networks leverages Aerospike to reliably deliver one of Japan’s leading ad distribution services
Mountain View, CA – September 12, 2012 – The global online advertising industry is on the brink of a revolution. Around the world, real-time bidding (RTB) is transforming the business of display media by allowing marketers to bid for individual online users’ ad impressions in real time while paying only what they want. Leading the charge in Japan is So-net Media Networks, an arm of So-net Entertainment Corporation, which offers of one of the country’s leading advertising distribution services.
A new case study published today by Aerospike outlines how So-net Media Networks’ Logicad demand-side platform (DSP) uses the Aerospike real-time NoSQL database (http://www.aerospike.com/performance/architecture) as a reliable Web-scale data store to manage more than 500 million unique user records. The full So-net Media Networks case study is available at: http://www.aerospike.com/why-aerospike/customers.
So-net Media Networks’ Logicad DSP features a robust system infrastructure that rapidly and reliably processes massive volumes of distribution logs and audience data. It also uses a distinctive algorithm to distribute ads with RTB functionality that maximizes the effectiveness of display ads placed by advertisers.
The new case study examines the business and technical demands that led So-net Media Networks to select Aerospike, along with an overview of how the real-time database has been implemented to support the Logicad DSP. Key benefits the Aerospike database is providing So-net Media Networks include:
* Predictably meets the need to respond within 10 milliseconds.
* A four-node cluster easily handles 50,000 transactions per second (TPS).
* Manages over 500 million unique user records and 2 TB of data for the Logicad DSP.
* Delivers 24x7 high availability, and the scale-out architecture supports So-net Media Networks’ plans for business expansion.
* Aerospike was 1/20th the cost of the equivalent DRAM alternative.
“We have been very satisfied with the quality of Aerospike’s database,” says So-net Media Networks President Satoshi Hoyano. “Aerospike provides the immediate response, user friendly interaction, and quick trouble shooting that we need to support our advertising distribution service today, and we are confident it can support our future needs as well.”
“So-net Media Networks is an innovator in the real-time bidding services that are fundamentally transforming the global online advertising industry,” said Bruce Fram, Aerospike CEO. “We are excited by the role of our Aerospike database in delivering the predictable real-time performance and 100% uptime that are critical when every second represents a new revenue opportunity.”

WSO2 BAM 2.0 Takes Advantage of Apache Cassandra, Hadoop and Thrift to Bring Fast, Web-Scale Visibility into SOA Processes, Transactions and Workflows
Palo Alto, CA – September 12, 2012 – As enterprises extend business processes, data, applications, and services to the Web, they face new challenges in maintaining real-time visibility while monitoring massive amounts of events and activities. WSO2 addresses these demands with the newest release of its WSO2 Business Activity Monitor (WSO2 BAM) (http://wso2.com/products/business-activity-monitor). The completely re-architected WSO2 BAM 2.0 now takes advantage of three leading open source projects: Apache Cassandra, Apache Hadoop, and Apache Thrift to elastically scale and enable just-in-time collection and analysis of big data.
WSO2 BAM 2.0 is part of the award-winning 100% open source WSO2 Carbon enterprise middleware platform. Other key features of the newest release, include:
* New toolbox approach allows developers to create and deploy a single, pluggable entity that contains data definition, analysis definition, and the dashboard and visualization.
* Easy integration with other BAM and reporting engines means developers can simply plug WSO2 BAM 2.0 into existing systems to take advantage of scalable big data analysis and collection while using their familiar dashboards.
* Publishing flexibility includes letting developers choose either a REST interface or Apache Thrift, which supports popular languages, such as C, C++, and Java.
* Pre-built data agents in WSO2 BAM 2.0, combined with the shared code base of all fully componentized WSO2 Carbon enterprise middleware products, make it easier than ever for WSO2 products, such as the recently launched WSO2 API Manager (http://wso2.com/products/api-manager), to take advantage of WSO2’s BAM functionality.
“Business interactions are evolving rapidly as they move to the Web, creating an exponential leap in the amount of data that must be reviewed in order to gain meaningful insights, and business activity monitoring products need to evolve as well,” said Paul Fremantle, WSO2 co-founder and CTO. “With WSO2 BAM 2.0, we’ve gone beyond traditional monitoring to provide a framework for collecting very large amounts of data, both structured and unstructured, and then analyzing it, rolling it up, and crunching it in a cloud environment. At the same time, we enable just-in-time analysis with elastic scalability to help businesses move from monthly reporting to an up-to-the-moment understanding of their key performance indicators.”
WSO2 BAM 2.0 Brings New Power, Flexibility to Monitoring
WSO2 Business Activity Monitor 2.0 provides just-in-time visibility into distributed complex systems, including service-oriented architecture (SOA) processes, transactions and workflows. It is designed to support the heterogeneous SOAs that dominate the enterprise landscape—providing a lightweight, efficient and easy-to-deploy alternative to traditionally large, complex business activity monitoring solutions. With the new simpler plug-points in WSO2 BAM 2.0, it becomes possible to enable the monitoring of non-SOA and legacy applications as well. With WSO2 BAM 2.0, enterprises have a powerful framework for tracking and analyzing big data related to such areas as click-streams, API usage, fraud detection, and software log analysis in a software-as-a-service (SaaS) environment, to name a few.
Version 2.0 of WSO2 BAM introduces a high-performance framework for data capture. Apache Cassandra enables scalable event storage using column families for each event type. Meanwhile load balancing offers horizontal scaling, and a low-latency API enables WSO2 BAM 2.0 to receive large volumes events over various transports, including Apache Thrift and REST/HTTP. In addition to existing capabilities for collecting and analyzing data, the new data collection model also supports plugging into the WSO2 Complex Event Processing Server (WSO2 CEP Server) (http://wso2.com/products/complex-event-processing-server) to enable real-time high-performance analysis and pattern detection.
Also new in WSO2 BAM 2.0 is scalable data analysis. Powered by Apache Hadoop, it provides SQL-like flexibility for writing analysis algorithms via Apache Hive. Analysis tasks are schedulable, and extensibility is achieved via algorithms implemented in Java. Analysis results can be stored flexibly in Apache Cassandra, a relational database, or file system.
Additionally, WSO2 BAM 2.0 offers greater flexibility, since support for Thrift, HTTP and Web services allows event publishing from any language or platform. WSO2 BAM also features a non-blocking, multi-threaded, low-impact Java Agent SDK for publishing events from any Java-based system.
Finally, WSO2 BAM 2.0 features pre-built data agents for all WSO2 middleware products. These include a mediation data agent for WSO2 Enterprise Service Bus, as well as a service agent for all service hosting products, such as WSO2 API Manager, WSO2 Application Server, WSO2 Business Process Server, WSO2 Data Services Server and WSO2 Business Rules Server, among others. A reusable service data and mediation data model supports integration with other service hosting and mediation systems.
WSO2 BAM 2.0 Builds on Proven WSO2 Carbon Platform
WSO2 BAM is part of the award-winning WSO2 Carbon, the industry’s only fully componentized, OSGi-compliant enterprise middleware platform (http://wso2.com/products/carbon). Like all WSO2 middleware products, it is inherently cloud-enabled and uses proven core framework components that provide a consistent set of enterprise-class management, security, clustering, logging, statistics, tracing, and other capabilities. Additionally, it offers a graphical management console, which is integrated with other WSO2 middleware products, for configuration, management and monitoring.
The componentized architecture enables WSO2 BAM to expand from a single JVM download to highly scalable deployment involving tens of servers. It also means developers simply need to download WSO2 BAM to add the functionality to other WSO2 middleware products they are using, such as WSO2 API Manager, WSO2 Governance Registry, or WSO2 Enterprise Service Bus. The WSO2 unified management console automatically recognizes the addition of WSO2 BAM. Additionally enterprises have unprecedented flexibility to customize WSO2 BAM by adding WSO2 Carbon middleware products or the 175-plus components on which they are based, as well as to migrate between on-premise and the cloud.
Availability and Support
WSO2 Business Activity Monitor 2.0 is available today as a software download, and as a WSO2 Cloud Virtual Machine running on the Amazon Elastic Computing Cloud (EC2), Linux Kernel Virtual Machine (KVM), and VMware ESX. WSO2 BAM 2.0 also will be available in a multi-tenant cloud version with the next release of the WSO2 Stratos cloud middleware platform (http://wso2.com/cloud/stratos) in Fall 2012. As a fully open source solution released under the Apache License 2.0, it does not carry any licensing fees.
WSO2 BAM 2.0 is backed by a world-class technical team in which the experts that helped create the software provide support, leading to direct and immediate access to the people with in-depth knowledge of the middleware. WSO2 service and support options include evaluation support, a special QuickStartSM consulting program, development support, and production support.

Seamless connection through the Fiorano ESB to travel agencies around the world used to sell excess inventory and increase revenue
Fiorano Software, a leader in distributed integration solutions, announced today that the Fiorano SOA platform has been deployed by JTB Global Marketing and Travel (JTB), a company that promotes and facilitates overseas tourism to Japan, to seamlessly connect JTB’s backend systems with overseas travel agencies’ systems.
JTB provides travel products such as tour packages, hotel rooms, airline tickets, etc. to tourists visiting Japan. In the past, the company focused its marketing efforts on its own network of travel agencies and their domestic reseller partners. JTB wanted to expand its business by marketing travel products to overseas travel agencies, which required connecting JTB back-end systems with overseas travel agencies’ systems to automate business processes such as inventory inquiry, reservation and cancellation.
JTB decided to use the XML-based Open Travel Alliance (OTA) data schemas for the electronic distribution supply chain and electronic data interchange (EDI) in the travel industry. The OTA data schema is widely used by airlines car rental firms, hotels, cruise lines, railways, leisure suppliers, travel agencies, etc.
“We decided to adopt the Fiorano SOA platform to address these challenges,” said a Senior IT Officer at JTB. “The Fiorano SOA platform has a powerful Enterprise Service Bus (Fiorano ESB) that connects with multiple applications via a comprehensive set of bundled adaptors. By using a messaging bus (Fiorano ESB), rather than a central server approach, the Fiorano SOA Platform eliminates bottlenecks associated with the central server approach. Our plan is to run the Fiorano ESB on a private cloud to expand accessibility to a wider range of travel agencies throughout the world.
“The multiple autonomous software components that comprise the Fiorano SOA platform provide further performance improvements by avoiding the need for control or intervention by a process engine running on a central server,” he added.
Built on the Fiorano Enterprise Service Bus (Fiorano ESB), the Fiorano SOA platform achieved a measurable ROI for JTB in a short time frame.
• The Fiorano ESB helped simplify the implementation process and accelerate time to market.
• Developers freed from complicated and troublesome work can focus on business flows to respond to changing market requirements.
• New travel agencies can be added on the fly without stopping the Fiorano Enterprise Service Bus (ESB).
• Bundled pre-built components included with the Fiorano SOA platform enable non-programmers to easily implement the system.
• Developed business processes can be re-used for new processes.
• The Fiorano ESB, Enterprise Service Bus is based on asynchronous messaging which makes it possible to flexibly insert mediation functions, such as data transformation and recording data into a database, into business processes.
• The Fiorano database adapter also provides strong capabilities for SQL statement creation.
