Are developers in Microsoft really working? I mean are they doing something constructive to submit their time-sheets with all ethics?
Because of their apathy towards quality and lack of passion, the quality of number of our applications in terms of performance are being penalized severely. I think Steve Balmer should either resign or turn over their software to open source review forthwith.

Chris,
I did mean a 'rant' icon (rather I wouldn't need to mention it as an exaggerated rebellious roaring rant too). Other than the need of presenting myself diplomatically, I do not have any other constraints to express my heart-felt curse for M$. I do not mind a '1' vote for the original thread or this one because it is just my view and everyone has their share of their pie to support or veto the same right?

Well, there are rants and then there is whining. The one votes you are getting are likely due to people seeing your post as whining. Not as a rant. I'm not sure how you are determining that the developers at Microsoft are apathetic, but such generalizations make your rant seem like a whine instead.

Show some data.
Come on, let us see that you really made an analysis of how crap microsoft software is, instead of just ranting that it's bad.
For me, your post is a rant of a under-skilled developer that is trying to blame the poor performance of their system on microsoft code. Please, show me how wrong I'm, because i really hate to think about people this way.

While I agree with what you said, try replacing Microsoft with Apple in the OP. See the difference?

well, if it said Apple, the only thing I would point out on the post would be the fact that the CEO of Apple isn't Steve Balmer, but otherwise agree with the OP
this loses some of the fun after their maps app, most of the Apple fanboys by here are starting to agree when i say Apple is crap, goodbye for the funniest game we ever had by here

I doubt it is the devs not working hard enough being the problem, the biggie is corporate sclerosis.
This is a well documented instance[^], the effort the team had to go through to create the "Shutdown" menu you currently see in Vista/Win7. It's worth reading the stuff on Joel's blog too.

Have you tried to beat the PacMan score of Microsoft employees, hell yeah they're working!

I suggest full contact programming to pick things up!

What on earth make you think the developers are responsible for anything but cutting code and installing bugs. I can't imagine they have a great deal of input into designing the apps.

I nearly sh*t myself laughing there.
"Microslaves" from Douglas Coupland describes the life of Microsoft programmers. As for Steve, well, his developers[^]-speech is legendary.
Doesn't sound like you're thinking, but guessing. My guess is, it's based on frustration and rumors. Now, you could try and argue that IBM OS/2 Warp is waaaaay better, but it would remain that and nothing more; a brave attempt.

Perhaps you should have read his motivation for acting that way. It was a deliberate act, and it's not a personality-flaw as you suggest.

Apart from a few goofy UI design choices and some honest to god bugs there is no evidence to support such generalisations like the one you made just now. You shouldn't accuse someone of writing bad code unless you've actually seen the code.
