Why do we celebrate the New Year the way we do? The first of January has no significance astronomically, it is just a random point in the Earth's orbit around the sun.
 
If we are going to celebrate something, we should at least pick a better starting point, like the time when all the planets last lined up with the sun. That would be year zero, and count up from there. Years can have the same length, but months will be made equal (and will not be named after arbitrary people who've been dead for ages)
 
OK, you can all stop laughing now. Imagine the reaction of the software development community alone, if such a system is adopted. Roll eyes | :rolleyes: It is bad enough that some contries have their own calendar.
 
Maybe if all narcotics were legalized first globally...
