LEADTOOLS Anywhere™ extends LEAD Technologies' award winning LEADTOOLS Imaging SDKs to every major development platform. This initiative began last year with the release of SDKs for HTML5 and WinRT. The HTML5 SDKs made it possible to develop zero footprint web applications and WinRT laid the necessary foundation for porting LEADTOOLS to other native platforms. With LEADTOOLS 18, LEAD has further expanded the reach of its Imaging SDKs by offering native libraries for iOS, OS X, Android and Linux development. All core LEADTOOLS imaging technology is natively supported in each of these platforms, including viewing, annotation and markup, OCR, OMR, forms processing, 1D and 2D barcode, PDF, DICOM and support for over 150 file formats and 200 image processing functions.

In addition to porting its core imaging technology to new platforms, LEAD has made significant enhancements to its existing Document, Medical and Multimedia engines. LEAD has also streamlined its product line by merging various products into one another. Consequently, the base products now have more features than ever, and the effective cost of development seats has been significantly reduced. Better yet, LEAD is including the multiple platform support in its base SDKs at no additional development seat cost. Major enhancements to Document family in version 18 include dramatic improvements to the speed and accuracy of the Advantage OCR engine. The combination of features contained in this new version, including multi-language support, automatic language detection and specialized image preprocessing for mobile devices, is not found in any other OCR SDK on the market. The Barcode engines benefitted from improved recognition speed and accuracy, and the PDF Readers and Writers were enhanced with the addition of full support for reading, editing and writing native PDF annotations.
Customers developing medical imaging applications are well aware of the importance of zero footprint deployment to the healthcare industry. The LEADTOOLS HTML5 Medical Viewer in Version 18 continues to close the feature gap between web and desktop applications. New features such as patient projection, reference lines, drag and drop capability, and customizable layouts allow healthcare professionals to enjoy state–of-the-art viewing and processing capabilities regardless of their location and device.
The Multimedia family of products offers significant new and valuable technology in Version 18 as well. Online documents have gained enormous popularity in the era of emerging technologies. Whether it is storage of analytical data, or conversion of images to documents, different file formats play a great role in minimizing the manual work. You can convert the documents to the different file formats through Saaspose.Words such as PDF, XPS, TIFF, HTML, SWF etc. This REST API ensures that the format and quality of original documents is retained. You can either convert document by using the uploaded document on Saaspose storage, Amazon S3 storage etc. or send the document as request stream to Saaspose API. Previously, we have provided examples for different programming languages such as Java, .NET and PHP; we are pleased to announce that you can now use Saaspose.Words REST examples in Ruby as well. You can either invoke these REST operations directly using your own code or you can use a REST client for your particular language. What’s new in this release?
The long awaited version of Aspose.Cells for Java 7.4.0 has been released. This month’s release supports specifying a custom encoding type when saving to HTML. This month’s release includes an enhancement for advanced conditional formatting when converting worksheet to image files. We have also made an enhancement to the Microsoft Excel ruler which is not displayed when setting Page Layout view. We have improved the performance of Excel to PDF rendering, sometimes the process hanged a bit for certain Excel files. In this release, several important issues have been addressed. For example, issues around rendering spreadsheets (XLS, XLSX etc.), protecting sheets, rendering PivotTables, encrypting files and exporting to PDF have been resolved. We have made a few enhancements in Aspose.Cells for .NET’s web based Grid control. For example, GridWeb can now read list data validations in the template file and you can write code for drawing object and shape Click events. We also made enhancements and fixes so that the GridWeb control works smoothly with browser types other than Internet Explorer types (for example, Google Chrome, FireFox, and Safari) when performing insert and edit operations. This release includes plenty of improved features and bug fixes as listed below

- Corrupted name ranges on save is fixed.
- Locale settings now working for a cell with a DataTime formatting
- Error in formatting a document with simple quote in the Header tab column is resolved.
- Formatting specific characters in a string is now working for an XLSX file
- GridWeb’s validation menu list will now word on menu items which contain Dollar sign -"$"
- Copy-Paste issue is resolve for web grid which is not working for Chrome, FireFox etc.
- GridWeb’s validation menu list is refreshed after updating the referenced cell value
- Hanging issue is resolved when saving to PDF format
- Incorrect formula calculation results are fixed
- Data source of the chart was changed after combining workbooks

PRINCETON JUNCTION, NJ, January 28, 2013 – The International Function Point Users Group (IFPUG) is pleased to announce the release of the Software Non-functional Assessment Process (SNAP) Assessment Practices Manual 2.0 under a Creative Commons 3.0 Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike License. IFPUG is the first international functional sizing standards organization to release a new standard under the Creative Commons License.
The SNAP provides organizations and projects a means to develop a quantifiable measure for the non-functional requirements (NFR). By sizing non-functional requirements software development can planned, evaluated and managed better; saving organizations time and money. The SNAP standard provides organizations using IFPUG measures with a unique competitive advantage to those using other software sizing methods which do not account for non-functional software size.
Sizing this component of project work will allow organizations to build historical data repositories that can be referenced to assist in decision making for the technical and/or quality aspects of application Assessment Practices.

Jackie Wheeler, WSO2 president of technical content, brings more than two decades of expertise in technical documentation, online help, and training for enterprise software companies, such as MuleSoft, Ariba and Autodesk. Gunasiri Perera, WSO2 vice president of delivery, brings more than 15 years of global IT delivery and support experience, with deep insight into international corporate responsibilities. Capturing and Sharing Knowledge
As vice president of technical content, Jackie Wheeler brings to WSO2 deep experience in documenting software products and building documentation sets and teams from scratch. Prior to WSO2, Jackie held positions as director of technical publications at NICE Systems and at MuleSoft, Inc. where she was a founding member of the technical publications group. At MuleSoft, she contributed to its developer blog, screencasts and podcasts, and marketing and sales efforts in addition to writing the company’s documentation. Previously Jackie also served as director of knowledge management at NorthStar, Inc. where she founded the documentation and training group. He began his career at IFS as a software engineer contributing to the design and development of its new developer framework in service-oriented architecture, as well as ERP application design and development for mobile and J2EE Web technologies with an Oracle backend. Gunasiri has been a guest lecturer of MBA programs at the Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology (APIIT), Graduate School of Management in Malaysia. He also has served as a panel chairman of MBA viva interviews and a mentor for computer science and engineering students at the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. He is a chartered engineer in IT by profession and also an ICT committee member of Institute of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL).

Compressed order-delivery cycle and optimized shipping logistics provide major boost to profitability and competitiveness
Fiorano Software, a leader in enterprise integration middleware, announced today that Fujinami Towel Service, a leading Japanese hospitality supplies company, has deployed the Fiorano ESB Enterprise Service Bus to scale operations, improve customer service and increase profitability.
Fujinami has a highly distributed network of franchisees who collect sales orders from and deliver supplies to shops and restaurants. In the past, manual order processing and complex rules for different franchise-product combinations slowed down operations and resulted in frequent errors. Handling intricate packing and shipping logistics on an ad-hoc basis resulted in a sub-optimal allocation of resources. The result was significant bottlenecks in the entire order-delivery and sales fulfillment cycle that limited Fujinami’s ability to scale operations. High costs eroded their profitability.
The company needed a scalable middleware system that could meet their growing needs and leverage their existing legacy systems (Database) and networks. Business terms with franchisees were in a continuous state of flux. This required an extremely flexible system that allowed them to make changes easily based on business expediency.
The initial architecture and design was handled by Intermirage, a system integrator. Describing the selection and deployment process, Mr. Noriaki Aoki, Chief Architect at Intermirage, said: "In selecting an SOA platform product, we carefully evaluate the implementation efficiency and value per use case of each alternative. With the Fiorano SOA Platform, development processes from configuration to deployment were very smooth and easy so alternative business scenarios could be completed very quickly. In addition, Fiorano’s REST adapter and event-port mechanism eliminated the need for coding scripts, such as branching by IF or WHEN statements in XSLT syntax, which are required by other products. We also saved significant time by creating and deploying REST APIs for business partners just by setting parameters in the Wizard."
The new order processing system based on the Fiorano ESB Enterprise Service Bus was built in just three months with the support of Intermirage. With Fiorano ESB, and the resultant SOA based system, Fujinami developers can now rapidly implement change requirements using just a drag-drop-deploy approach. Fiorano’s prebuilt components deploy just by mapping them to business functions and physical IT systems. The new system allows remote monitoring, logging and tracking for effective error tracking and problem resolution. It has the flexibility to change sales rules or the packaging/shipping algorithm on demand.
“Productivity increases were significant with the Fiorano SOA Platform,” says Mr. Aoki. “One use case took only two days to implement and most of that time was spent on validating SQL statements for existing databases.”
Building on this success, Fujinami now plans to integrate this order system with inventory management, and to expand the system for overseas operations.

Aerospike database’s performance on Thumbtack’s YCSB benchmark highlights the advantages of using flash and DRAM together to achieve superior scalability, throughput and latency
Mountain View, CA – January 14, 2013 – The advantage of flash technology for powering fast big data transactions is highlighted in a new, independent NoSQL database benchmark report from Thumbtack Technology. Aerospike (http://www.aerospike.com) today announced that the Thumbtack benchmark results revealed a nearly 10x performance advantage for the Aerospike database running on a combination of native flash and DRAM over two other NoSQL databases running on a mix of DRAM and RAM: Apache Cassandra and 10gen MongoDB. Aerospike is making reprints of the Thumbtack report, “Ultra-High Performance NoSQL Benchmarking: Analyzing Durability and Performance Tradeoffs,” available at www.aerospike.com/benchmark.
“Our goal with the study was to determine which key-value store is most appropriate in a real-world scenario. That meant not only using raw hardware and solid-state drives, but configuring each database to optimally handle the workload,” said Ben Engber, Thumbtack Technology (http://www.thumbtack.net) CEO and co-author of the benchmark study. “Aerospike was the only vendor among those tested that specifically optimizes its platform around SSDs, so the Aerospike database’s superior performance was not unexpected.”
Benchmark Overview
Thumbtack evaluated the three NoSQL database and key-value store offerings using the Yahoo Cloud Serving Benchmark (YCSB) (http://research.yahoo.com/Web_Information_Management/YCSB) as the basis for the testing. To gauge their capacity and speed in handling big data while operating against disk, Thumbtack tested the databases’ ability to process 500 million records. A fourth database, the Couchbase Server, was dropped from this evaluation because it could not load all of the records.
In the Thumbtack benchmark measuring a read-heavy workload, Aerospike achieved a maximum throughput of more than 300,000 operations per second, nearly 10x faster than its nearest competitor, Cassandra. For the balanced workload benchmark, Aerospike was 5x faster than Cassandra. In both tests, MongoDB placed third. The Thumbtack report notes, “This was particularly impressive since both Cassandra and MongoDB were using weak consistency models (returning success after only one copy has been written) and Aerospike was using a strong consistency model.”
Across all four Thumbtack tests for latency, Aerospike maintained sub-millisecond latency even while processing 180,000 to 400,000 operations per second. Latency for Cassandra ranged from sub-millisecond to 8 milliseconds, and for MongoDB, it varied from 1 to 20 milliseconds; meanwhile neither database exceeded 40,000 operations per second.
The Flash-based SSD Advantage
“From the start, we recognized that a database optimized for both flash and DRAM would be ideal for emerging classes of applications that live or die by their ability to reliably respond within milliseconds,” said Brian Bulkowski, Aerospike founder and CTO. “Today our customers rely on our native flash Aerospike database to achieve both the real-time responses and 100% uptime that this extremely high performance enables. Now the ThumbTack benchmark adds significant new validation of the value in optimizing databases and applications for SSDs.”
“Providing fast reliable access to data in real-time is simple to say, but it’s not easy to do,” said Patrick DeAngelis, [x+1] CTO. “However, running our Aerospike clusters on SSDs, we’ve seen the database scale to a few billion key values with no compromise to performance, and we’ve even seen response times under 1 millisecond, which is phenomenal. We are now rethinking the way we store and access our data and intelligence because of the options that Aerospike gives us.”
“We continue to push the boundaries of what you can do in a real-time environment, and Aerospike’s architecture, which is optimized for flash storage, means we can be a lot more efficient with the way we spread our data,” said Mazdak Rezvani, Chango CTO. “Already we’ve seen a 25% improvement in efficiency with Aerospike over our previous NoSQL database.”
Complementing Thumbtack’s NoSQL benchmark is the Aerospike Certification Tool (ACT) for benchmarking the ability of SSDs to support database transactions. What’s new in this release?
The long awaited version of Aspose.Cells for Java 7.3.5 has been released. This month’s release supports rendering sparklines and displaying RTL (right-to-left) languages in generated PDF files (Excel to PDF conversion). We have added more methods (for example Validation.getValue1() and Validation.getValue2()) to obtain DateTime values for custom needs. Moreover, we have enhanced the performance of PDF rendering by providing the valuable PdfSaveOptions.CheckFontCompatibility option; the conditional formatting feature is also improved. This release is also a maintenance release where several important issues have been fixed. Many issues around reading, writing or converting spreadsheets (XLS, XLSX etc.), rendering or converting shapes and exporting to PDF have been resolved. Jonathan joined WSO2 in 2006 as the director of mashup technologies, leading the design and development of the WSO2 Mashup Server. Previously, Jonathan led the development of various Web services standards at Microsoft. Prior to Microsoft, he co-founded and served as design director of Walkabout Software, which Microsoft acquired.

What’s new in this release?
We are pleased to announce the release of Aspose.Email for .NET 2.5.0. This month’s release not only includes important bug fixes, but also some enhancements demanded by our valued customers. This version includes an enhancement of saving messages from PST to Memory stream directly by enumerating MessageInfo or message Entry Ids. This was not supported with the earlier versions, as message extraction from PST files followed extraction of MessageInfo first and then retrieve complete message based on information from the MessageInfo objects. Adding Folder permissions to Exchange folders was supported by earlier versions of Aspose.Emial. But with this release, now Retrieving Folder permissions on Exchange Server are supported as well. This release also includes some important bug fixes. PST-to-PST and PST-to-OST message copying operations are more improved now. Various issues related to EML-to-MHTML and MSG-to-EML conversions have also been resolved in this release. The main new and enhanced features added in this release are listed below

What’s new in this release?
We are happy to announce the release of Aspose.Tasks for .NET 4.9.0. This month’s release includes a number of bug fixes along with improved calculations of earned values for Task, Resource and Assignment objects. The earned values BCWS, BCWP, ACWP and CV are calculated more precisely when project data is read. This version also includes some important bug fixes related to MPP resource assignments timephased data, task data issues, assignment baselines resource cost per use for 2003 MPP files, and conversion from MPP to PDF. Below is the complete list of new features and important bug fixes included in this release.

What’s new in this release?
The latest version of Saaspose.Cells enhances the security measures by protecting the workbooks from unauthorized access to modify the structure or content. It allows to encrypt the workbook and assures the protection for making changes to the layout of the worksheets in a workbook. You can encrypt a workbook and assign an encryption key to prevent the unauthorized access by eavesdroppers or hackers. The encrypted workbooks cannot be accesses without decryption key. Saaspose.Cells allows you to decrypt workbook for authorized access to make any changes in the document. A decryption key is required to recover the contents of the workbook. The content, layout and structure of the decrypted workbook can then be modified. This is a powerful features supported by Saaspose.Cells that protects the workbooks from eavesdroppers and hackers and the use of encryption and decryption keys assures only authorized access to sensitive information. Needed database objects are always at hand
This new version of Active Query Builder makes working with metadata simpler and more understandable. Now the programmer can group database objects by different namespaces, including both the traditional ones (databases and schemas) and those specific to different database servers (packages and linked servers). It is now possible to group objects in a tree using arbitrary markers, which means it can reflect the logical structure of the database rather than its physical structure. That is, objects can now be organized in the tree however you like: by subject area, or by moving commonly used objects into a separate group.

Reflecting metadata in a tree according to a logical, rather than a physical, structure completes the developers´ work in the first version of Active Query Builder on helping users understand databases when working with queries.
"Earlier we added full replacement of real object and field names with "alternative" names that are understandable and readable for the user," says Sergey Smagin, product manager of Active Database Software. "When working with queries, in both visual build mode and query text editing mode, the user has the ability to use such alternative object names in place of real names; it can significantly improve in the understanding of queries and database structures as a whole. The component substitutes the alternative names with the real ones unobtrusively, so the user barely notices."
What is Active Query Builder?
Active Query Builder provides the programmer with a full set of tools for working on SQL queries of any level of difficulty: parsing, visual building, program modification, and formatting. It also has an SQL text editor with code completion and syntax highlight. Working with Active Query Builder, the user has the ability to combine visual query building with text editing. The component supports SQL syntax for all widely distributed database servers and takes the specific traits of each one into account.

Active Query Builder is available for different programming environments: .NET WinForms, ASP.NET, Java, Delphi and ActiveX. A license for one developer on WinForms, ASP.NET or Java, including subscriptions to free upgrades and unlimited technical support, costs $450 (USD).
