Hi Soren. And you're welcome. We'll be adding that functionality down the road.

GeneralDifferent LanguagesmemberPaulo Zemek26 Jan '13 - 4:30
I am posting this because I think I am not the only one with such problem. I consider that I read and write very well in English, but I can't say that I speak equally well. So, if I want to publish a video in Portuguese or even French, can I do it?
At the same time, what about if I want to look for a video done in a different language? Is codeproject open to accept videos in different languages? Is there any mechanism to catalog that those videos are in fact in such language, helping it be found for those who want that and avoiding it to appear to those who don't speak such language?

And, if there is no actually such support, will it be added?
Thanks,
Paulo Zemek.
GeneralRe: Different LanguagesstaffCarrie Davis-Sydor26 Jan '13 - 7:06
We are definitely open to receive videos in other languages, although we will most likely be keeping the interface in English. If there is a large volume of videos in a different language, we can certainly address that when the time comes. I'm sure some of our users would love to see a technical training video in their native language. I look forward to seeing it - although I only speak French and English. Smile | :)

It would make it easier to see of course, but I think it would make it more difficult to moderate and to maintain. I think the publication of videos is not going to be so easy as publicating an article or a tip/trick on CP but even though... it can end originating some headaches.

Why is everybody called codeproject.tv member? Why not the real usernames? Is this something temporary for the beta period? What's gonna happen with the comments and rates when it exists beta?

Click on the codeproject.tv memeber, Accept the T&C if you haven't accepted yet, then there are three tabs available, by choosing "My Profile" tab you can modify this.

OK, Thanks. Yet, I'd expect the profile there would be linked to the ones on codeproject.com. So are there two databases for users? People will have to create new profiles to get access to the site?
GeneralRe: codeproject.tv membermemberNelek26 Jan '13 - 12:29
I don't know how it will be at the end, but now is the Beta phase, so it is not so strange that they haven't merged with usual CP yet.

It is definitely the intent to link the profiles so that your information will carry over from CodeProject. Thanks for your feedback.

If you have created a CodeProject member profile, then your information will now be pulled over into CodeProject.TV's user profile. Smile | :)

How about a x second preview of the video when hovering over the thumbnail?
To give a impression of the content and the general quality to expect.

I second that. If you are paying for something, you need to know if it fits your requirement well.

It could be Bing style preview with parts from beginning, middle and end of the video

The possibility to make a donation if you like a free video might be a nice option.

GeneralOdd Bit Of BehaviormemberRoger Wright25 Jan '13 - 18:06
I was expecting the video to show in the little video screen, like it does in every other video site on the web. But instead a new window appeared, much to my surprise! I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but it was unexpected and will take some getting used to. Nice idea, though, and I look forward to seeing it develop! Big Grin | :-D

Now showing on the screen, rather than a pop-up window! Smile | :)

SuggestionVideo GroupingmemberTim Corey25 Jan '13 - 16:47
I would like to see groupings. For instance, if I were to create a series on Web Design using ASP.NET, I would create multiple videos (one on MVC, one on JavaScript, etc.) If I were to sell the series (say at one dollar per video), I would want a way to also have a bundle, where you could buy the entire series for a discounted price. Even without the discount, it would be much more convenient to be able to buy an entire series all at once instead of one video at a time.

For those videos that are free, it would be nice to be able to download the entire series as one download too. Again, it would save a lot of time doing mindless clicking.
GeneralRe: Video Groupingmemberledtech326 Jan '13 - 6:10
As far as watching,
It would be handy if you could select a Group or Series then select the one(s) or all of them that you would like to watch.
GeneralRe: Video GroupingstaffCarrie Davis-Sydor26 Jan '13 - 7:13
Up and coming! We already have a course feature, where you can group your videos into a course for a bundle purchase. There is a tab on your profile page that allows you to group your individual videos into courses. When that course is published, viewers can watch the videos as a playlist.

QuestionResume function?memberNelek25 Jan '13 - 11:25
If you start watching a video and then click in the "CP.Tv" window another time, the popup with the video will get rebooted.

Is it possible to check if already open, and the bring the opened popup to the front? (to resume the video it is not necessary)
Regards.

SuggestionSubtitles or transcriptions?memberNelek25 Jan '13 - 11:19
I know that may sound a bit stupid, but I think it would be a cool idea to have the possibility of a transcription of the video's audio.

On the one side it would help people with problems, procentual there are not so much, but there still are good programmers with hearing-problems.

On the other hand... (and this is going to be MUCH MORE often) there are a very big part of non-native speakers (I include myself here), who can manage with write/read, even (bad) speak, but to hear some videos...

(No offense Chris, but I have only understood 60% of your welcome / introduction video)

So having the possibility to see the videos with subtitles or just download a tiny *.pdf or *.txt to follow the content of the video will drastically increase the confortability for us "foreign" users.
Regards.

GeneralRe: Subtitles or transcriptions?protectorAspDotNetDev25 Jan '13 - 12:47
Lynda.com does this really well, in case Chris is curious to see an example of that functionality in the wild.

Text accompanying the video is also nice because you can search through the text very quickly. If the text is timestamped (as it is on lynda.com), you can know exactly where to seek to in the video (a play button right by the text to automatically perform the seek would be awesome too).

Something we are definitely working on for the future. Thanks for the feedback!
