What’s new in this release?
We are happy to announce the release of Aspose.Tasks for .NET 5.1.0. Rendering of complete Project data was supported earlier. With the current release, however, Aspose.Tasks now supports rendering individual views of a project to various output formats. We have supported rendering Resource Usage View, Resource Sheet View and Task Usage View in this release. In addition, this version also includes enhancement for Getting the number of pages for different views with various Timescale settings. This release also includes bug fixes related to certain features of MPP file such as Resource Baseline, WBS, Extended Attributes and updating. Below is the complete list of new features and important bug fixes included in this release.

It’s official, It’s been no surprise that I am interested in security I with a colleague at work have started an OWASP local chapter. The chapter had previously been set up and had 1 meeting, however it fell by the way side. A couple of weeks ago a counter part to the role that I play recently asked me what I thought about co-leading a OWASP local chapter. I thought about it and quickly agreed. We restarted the chapter and took it over, we are planning our first meeting on February 26, 2013.

Program Verification Systems (Co.Ltd) has announced the release of the new major version of PVS-Studio 5.0. The utility performs static analysis of a source code to reveal coding errors, programmer´s mistakes, fragments of code that can potentially produce a bug or disrupt the logic of the program. The new version is announced to support C++Builder, Windows Phone 8 and Windows Store projects.
Tracking and eliminating "bugs" are inevitable parts of software development. Multiple ways to perform this task are known: code review, debugging, dynamic code analysis, unit tests and others. PVS-Studio implements one of the most efficient ways to track both simple and in-depth code errors - static code analysis.
PVS-Studio scrupulously reads the entire source texts of a program, without actual execution of them, and detects errors and weak points in the code. The static code analysis approach allows a developer to test even those parts of the source texts that are rarely executed and thus are hard to debug with other methods. PVS-Studio also doesn´t rely on a compiler and easily detects hidden or potential errors in the code caused by copy-pasting or typos providing detailed diagnosis messages on every issue.
The application easily performs static analysis of 32-bit and 64-bit code and diagnoses parallel processing errors, while the ability to exclude unmodified parts of the source from analysis greatly speeds up the debugging. PVS-Studio flawlessly integrates to Microsoft Visual Studio 2005-2012 and MinGW, and the new version 5.0 also provides support for Embarcadero C++Builder, Windows Phone 8 and Windows Store projects.

PVS-Studio is available for Windows platform. The program supports the following IDEs: Microsoft Visual Studio 2012, 2010, 2008, 2005 (except Express editions), and Embarcadero C++Builder XE2, XE3, XE3 Update1.
The price list for PVS-Studio starts from €5,250 for a one-year license for 1-5 developers company to €28,000 for companies of 51-70 developers. The renewal of the license after the first year costs 80% of the regular price.

What is Spike-Engine?
Back in 2009, we've noticed that the modern software and web was becoming more and more interactive. Being independent video game developers and a passion for online, massively multiplayer games pushed us to create a technology that would suit all our needs. Spike-Engine is a software platform that facilitates building client-server applications for .NET developers. In particular, it focuses on real-time and duplex communication, performance and productivity.
The core idea behind Spike-Engine is quite simple. There are 3 core principles underpinning the architecture, duplex communication, performance and code generation.
Duplex Communication. We needed duplex communication, and a connected, stateful mode. Duplex communication simply means that client and the server can both initiate the communication and exchange messages easily, at any time (unlike HTTP). After all, we wanted to build games and interactive applications!
Performance. We wanted our technology to be performant and handle thousands of clients, and hundreds of thousands of packets per second. This proved to be very challenging to achieve and took 3 years to polish and to find a balance between flexibility, API and performance. Even better, good performance also saves cost, since we did not need to buy large servers with massive amount of bandwith and we could cut our costs.

The PVS-Studio static analyzer has changed its version number to 5.00. Why? Because we have worked hard at this release!
First of all, we have implemented PVS-Studio integration into Embarcadero C++Builder. Or Embarcadero RAD Studio - we are not yet sure ourselves how to call it correctly.
C++Builder users now have access to all the power of static analysis provided by PVS-Studio. Which is at present more than 160 general diagnostics. Besides, C++Builder XE3 Update 1 has finally acquired the 64-bit compiler! It means that more than 30 diagnostics of code migration to 64-bit systems existing in PVS-Studio for Visual C++ for a long time are now available to C++Builder users too. These diagnostics are well familiar to those of our users who have been using the analyzer since the time it was called Viva64. So, now this rule set can be used in C++Builder as well.
The first PVS-Studio 5.00 release supports the following C++Builder versions: XE2, XE3, XE3 Update1 with the 64-bit compiler. We plan to support a few older C++Builder versions in future.
This is the first public PVS-Studio release for C++Builder, that's why the number of bugs will probably be a bit higher than usually. We are sorry if that happens, and please don't feel shy to write to our support service: support@viva64.com.
The next important innovation in our tool is support of Windows Phone 8 and Windows Store projects in Visual Studio 2012. Projects like these are already starting to appear, and we are glad to provide the static analysis technology for them equally with standard desktop-application projects. There's not much to be said about it, just keep in mind that if you have a Windows Phone 8 or Windows Store project in C++, you may run PVS-Studio and see the list of issues detected in the code.
Let's briefly enumerate the main capabilities of our product for those users who are not familiar with PVS-Studio. PVS-Studio is a static code analyzer that integrates into Visual C++ and C++Builder. It also supports the command line version, including the MinGW-environment. PVS-Studio contains several hundreds of diagnostic messages grouped into 4 classes:
- General diagnostics.
- Possible optimization diagnostics.
- 64-bit errors diagnostics (Viva64).
- Concurrency errors diagnostics (VivaMP).
The tool can integrate into the following environments:
- Microsoft Visual Studio: 2012, 2010, 2008, 2005.
- Embarcadero RAD Studio: XE3 Update1, XE3, XE2.
- MinGW.
Thanks to the incremental analysis capability, developers can get diagnostic messages only for the code that has been just modified and completely ignore (if they wish) messages generated for old and unmodified code.

What's New in this Release?
We are pleased to announce the release of Aspose.Email for .NET 2.6.0. With the release of this version, one can now filter email messages using the MessageID of an email from an Exchange server. For this purpose, the MailQueryBuilder class has been equipped with the MessageID filter that can be used in combination of other filters to get the desired results. This month’s release also includes a number of important bug fixes, reported by our users, related to how Aspose.Email manages PSTs. In addition, other bug fixes such as EML-to-MSG conversion, handling an email’s TextBody and retrieving the real mail recipients from a message on Exchange server have been added. Online documents have gained enormous popularity in the era of emerging technologies. Whether it is storage of analytical data, or conversion of images to documents, different file formats play a great role in minimizing the manual work. You can convert the documents to the different file formats through Saaspose.Words such as PDF, XPS, TIFF, HTML, SWF etc. This REST API ensures that the format and quality of original documents is retained. You can either convert document by using the uploaded document on Saaspose storage, Amazon S3 storage etc. or send the document as request stream to Saaspose API. Previously, we have provided examples for different programming languages such as Java, .NET and PHP; we are pleased to announce that you can now use Saaspose.Words REST examples in Ruby as well. You can either invoke these REST operations directly using your own code or you can use a REST client for your particular language. You can upload the document to Saaspose storage or Amazon S3 storage using Saaspose REST API. Once it’s uploaded, you can convert the uploaded file to desired document format using Saaspose.Words REST API in Ruby. What’s new in this release?
The long awaited version of Aspose.Cells for Java 7.4.0 has been released. This month’s release supports specifying a custom encoding type when saving to HTML. This month’s release includes an enhancement for advanced conditional formatting when converting worksheet to image files. We have also made an enhancement to the Microsoft Excel ruler which is not displayed when setting Page Layout view. We have improved the performance of Excel to PDF rendering, sometimes the process hanged a bit for certain Excel files. In this release, several important issues have been addressed. For example, issues around rendering spreadsheets (XLS, XLSX etc.), protecting sheets, rendering PivotTables, encrypting files and exporting to PDF have been resolved. We have made a few enhancements in Aspose.Cells for .NET’s web based Grid control. For example, GridWeb can now read list data validations in the template file and you can write code for drawing object and shape Click events. We also made enhancements and fixes so that the GridWeb control works smoothly with browser types other than Internet Explorer types (for example, Google Chrome, FireFox, and Safari) when performing insert and edit operations. This release includes plenty of improved features and bug fixes as listed below
- Support custom encoding for saving HTML file

- Locale settings now working for a cell with a DataTime formatting
- Error in formatting a document with simple quote in the Header tab column is resolved.
- Formatting specific characters in a string is now working for an XLSX file
- GridWeb’s validation menu list will now word on menu items which contain Dollar sign -"$"
- Copy-Paste issue is resolve for web grid which is not working for Chrome, FireFox etc.
- GridWeb’s validation menu list is refreshed after updating the referenced cell value
- Hanging issue is resolved when saving to PDF format
- Incorrect formula calculation results are fixed
- Data source of the chart was changed after combining workbooks

PRINCETON JUNCTION, NJ, January 28, 2013 – The International Function Point Users Group (IFPUG) is pleased to announce the release of the Software Non-functional Assessment Process (SNAP) Assessment Practices Manual 2.0 under a Creative Commons 3.0 Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike License. IFPUG is the first international functional sizing standards organization to release a new standard under the Creative Commons License.
The SNAP provides organizations and projects a means to develop a quantifiable measure for the non-functional requirements (NFR). By sizing non-functional requirements software development can planned, evaluated and managed better; saving organizations time and money. The SNAP standard provides organizations using IFPUG measures with a unique competitive advantage to those using other software sizing methods which do not account for non-functional software size.
Sizing this component of project work will allow organizations to build historical data repositories that can be referenced to assist in decision making for the technical and/or quality aspects of application Assessment Practices.

Jackie Wheeler, WSO2 president of technical content, brings more than two decades of expertise in technical documentation, online help, and training for enterprise software companies, such as MuleSoft, Ariba and Autodesk. Gunasiri Perera, WSO2 vice president of delivery, brings more than 15 years of global IT delivery and support experience, with deep insight into international corporate responsibilities. Capturing and Sharing Knowledge
As vice president of technical content, Jackie Wheeler brings to WSO2 deep experience in documenting software products and building documentation sets and teams from scratch. She also specializes in enterprise software, open source, API documentation, system administrator documentation, end-user documentation, online help, and training.
Prior to WSO2, Jackie held positions as director of technical publications at NICE Systems and at MuleSoft, Inc. where she was a founding member of the technical publications group. At MuleSoft, she contributed to its developer blog, screencasts and podcasts, and marketing and sales efforts in addition to writing the company’s documentation. Previously Jackie also served as director of knowledge management at NorthStar, Inc. where she founded the documentation and training group. She also has served as a senior technical writer at Ariba, a writing manager and senior technical writer at Autodesk, and a technical writer at Strategic Mapping, Inc. and Pro/Tem Software.

Prior WSO2, Gunasiri served in senior management roles for global offshore development companies in Europe, United Arab Emirates, and Sri Lanka, providing these international clients with large-scale enterprise resource planning (ERP) project implementation, passenger service system (PSS) project implementation and product management, pre-sales, consulting and support. He began his career at IFS as a software engineer contributing to the design and development of its new developer framework in service-oriented architecture, as well as ERP application design and development for mobile and J2EE Web technologies with an Oracle backend. Gunasiri has been a guest lecturer of MBA programs at the Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology (APIIT), Graduate School of Management in Malaysia. He also has served as a panel chairman of MBA viva interviews and a mentor for computer science and engineering students at the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. He is a chartered engineer in IT by profession and also an ICT committee member of Institute of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL).

We are happy to announce the release of Aspose.Tasks for .NET 5.0.0. This month’s release provides support for reading Miscrosoft Project 2013 MPP formats. Aspose.Tasks now facilitates reading general project properties, calendar information, task and task link data, resource and resource assignment data, and outline codes and extended task attributes data for Microsoft Project 2013 formats. This version also incorporates a new feature that lets you read a task’s budget work and cost values from Microsoft Project 2007/2010 MPP files, that were not supported earlier. Compressed order-delivery cycle and optimized shipping logistics provide major boost to profitability and competitiveness
Fiorano Software, a leader in enterprise integration middleware, announced today that Fujinami Towel Service, a leading Japanese hospitality supplies company, has deployed the Fiorano ESB Enterprise Service Bus to scale operations, improve customer service and increase profitability.
Fujinami has a highly distributed network of franchisees who collect sales orders from and deliver supplies to shops and restaurants. In the past, manual order processing and complex rules for different franchise-product combinations slowed down operations and resulted in frequent errors. Handling intricate packing and shipping logistics on an ad-hoc basis resulted in a sub-optimal allocation of resources. The result was significant bottlenecks in the entire order-delivery and sales fulfillment cycle that limited Fujinami’s ability to scale operations. High costs eroded their profitability.
The company needed a scalable middleware system that could meet their growing needs and leverage their existing legacy systems (Database) and networks. Business terms with franchisees were in a continuous state of flux. This required an extremely flexible system that allowed them to make changes easily based on business expediency.
The initial architecture and design was handled by Intermirage, a system integrator. Describing the selection and deployment process, Mr. Noriaki Aoki, Chief Architect at Intermirage, said: "In selecting an SOA platform product, we carefully evaluate the implementation efficiency and value per use case of each alternative. With the Fiorano SOA Platform, development processes from configuration to deployment were very smooth and easy so alternative business scenarios could be completed very quickly. In addition, Fiorano’s REST adapter and event-port mechanism eliminated the need for coding scripts, such as branching by IF or WHEN statements in XSLT syntax, which are required by other products. We also saved significant time by creating and deploying REST APIs for business partners just by setting parameters in the Wizard."
The new order processing system based on the Fiorano ESB Enterprise Service Bus was built in just three months with the support of Intermirage. With Fiorano ESB, and the resultant SOA based system, Fujinami developers can now rapidly implement change requirements using just a drag-drop-deploy approach. Fiorano’s prebuilt components deploy just by mapping them to business functions and physical IT systems. The new system allows remote monitoring, logging and tracking for effective error tracking and problem resolution. It has the flexibility to change sales rules or the packaging/shipping algorithm on demand.
“Productivity increases were significant with the Fiorano SOA Platform,” says Mr. Aoki. “One use case took only two days to implement and most of that time was spent on validating SQL statements for existing databases.”
Building on this success, Fujinami now plans to integrate this order system with inventory management, and to expand the system for overseas operations.

Doc-To-Help 2012 v3 Offers Users the Freedom to Work in Multiple Technology Platforms
PITTSBURGH, PA – January 15, 2013 – Doc-To-Help, a trusted name and award-winning product in the content publishing tool market, has announced the release of Doc-To-Help 2012 v3. This release is part of a yearly subscription service and adds support for newly available technologies, including Microsoft Windows 8 and Word 2013, providing users the ability to upgrade their environments without trouble or concern.

It is architected to easily embed a single topic, or an entire Help system, into a web page. This allows users to stream updated content to their website efficiently.
Doc-To-Help first supported EPUB 2.0 in August of 2012, which ensured that Doc-To-Help users can deliver content where their customers need it. This latest release adds support for EPUB 3.0. “It means users can rest assure that Doc-To-Help’s EPUB output will work on as many devices as possible,” said Beall.
For companies and users who would like to gather user feedback for their Help system (such as commenting and ratings) and build a user community, it is possible to do so with Doc-To-Help. Beall also shared how users can use Doc-To-Help’s integration with DISQUS’s latest version to have a conversation with their readers. Aerospike database’s performance on Thumbtack’s YCSB benchmark highlights the advantages of using flash and DRAM together to achieve superior scalability, throughput and latency
Mountain View, CA – January 14, 2013 – The advantage of flash technology for powering fast big data transactions is highlighted in a new, independent NoSQL database benchmark report from Thumbtack Technology. Aerospike (http://www.aerospike.com) today announced that the Thumbtack benchmark results revealed a nearly 10x performance advantage for the Aerospike database running on a combination of native flash and DRAM over two other NoSQL databases running on a mix of DRAM and RAM: Apache Cassandra and 10gen MongoDB. Aerospike is making reprints of the Thumbtack report, “Ultra-High Performance NoSQL Benchmarking: Analyzing Durability and Performance Tradeoffs,” available at www.aerospike.com/benchmark.
“Our goal with the study was to determine which key-value store is most appropriate in a real-world scenario. That meant not only using raw hardware and solid-state drives, but configuring each database to optimally handle the workload,” said Ben Engber, Thumbtack Technology (http://www.thumbtack.net) CEO and co-author of the benchmark study. “Aerospike was the only vendor among those tested that specifically optimizes its platform around SSDs, so the Aerospike database’s superior performance was not unexpected.”
Benchmark Overview
Thumbtack evaluated the three NoSQL database and key-value store offerings using the Yahoo Cloud Serving Benchmark (YCSB) (http://research.yahoo.com/Web_Information_Management/YCSB) as the basis for the testing. To gauge their capacity and speed in handling big data while operating against disk, Thumbtack tested the databases’ ability to process 500 million records. A fourth database, the Couchbase Server, was dropped from this evaluation because it could not load all of the records.
In the Thumbtack benchmark measuring a read-heavy workload, Aerospike achieved a maximum throughput of more than 300,000 operations per second, nearly 10x faster than its nearest competitor, Cassandra. For the balanced workload benchmark, Aerospike was 5x faster than Cassandra. In both tests, MongoDB placed third. The Thumbtack report notes, “This was particularly impressive since both Cassandra and MongoDB were using weak consistency models (returning success after only one copy has been written) and Aerospike was using a strong consistency model.”
Across all four Thumbtack tests for latency, Aerospike maintained sub-millisecond latency even while processing 180,000 to 400,000 operations per second. Latency for Cassandra ranged from sub-millisecond to 8 milliseconds, and for MongoDB, it varied from 1 to 20 milliseconds; meanwhile neither database exceeded 40,000 operations per second.
The Flash-based SSD Advantage
“From the start, we recognized that a database optimized for both flash and DRAM would be ideal for emerging classes of applications that live or die by their ability to reliably respond within milliseconds,” said Brian Bulkowski, Aerospike founder and CTO. “Today our customers rely on our native flash Aerospike database to achieve both the real-time responses and 100% uptime that this extremely high performance enables. Now the ThumbTack benchmark adds significant new validation of the value in optimizing databases and applications for SSDs.”
“Providing fast reliable access to data in real-time is simple to say, but it’s not easy to do,” said Patrick DeAngelis, [x+1] CTO. “However, running our Aerospike clusters on SSDs, we’ve seen the database scale to a few billion key values with no compromise to performance, and we’ve even seen response times under 1 millisecond, which is phenomenal. We are now rethinking the way we store and access our data and intelligence because of the options that Aerospike gives us.”
“We continue to push the boundaries of what you can do in a real-time environment, and Aerospike’s architecture, which is optimized for flash storage, means we can be a lot more efficient with the way we spread our data,” said Mazdak Rezvani, Chango CTO. “Already we’ve seen a 25% improvement in efficiency with Aerospike over our previous NoSQL database.”
Complementing Thumbtack’s NoSQL benchmark is the Aerospike Certification Tool (ACT) for benchmarking the ability of SSDs to support database transactions.
