Ok, guess i should have looked at the previous bugs. This has already been submitted and brought to your attention so please disregard.

SuggestionI dont see the new Article/Blog/Tips on the home pagememberjibesh8 Feb '13 - 6:54
Earlier at the home page it displays Article/Blog/Tips needs approval. now I dont see those from the past 2-3 days. thought there isnt any article/blog. but not sure was it me or anyone having this issue in recent?

Is there any update on the system which restricts the view?

There's something a little wonky with the permissions on that Articles Needing approval list. Our apologies, we're getting it sorted.

BugMajor bug in CPmvpPrasad_Kulkarni8 Feb '13 - 1:54

GeneralRe: Major bug in CP [modified]memberMatthew Faithfull8 Feb '13 - 6:58
The status on this has definitely changed. Bob says I have over 500 points in the last 12 hours never mind the last 24 which is clearly ridiculous. However it's no longer making a dent in the Q&A 24 hour top list, so perhaps now that list at least is counting correctly?

OK Scratch that it's not a fix in progress but another bug I just bounced back up the board in one go from nowhere. It now lists 565 which is about what I estimate from the points table for the last 12 hours so it could just be an artifact of the algorithm. Best forget it until the main issue is fixed.

BugQ&A weirdnessmvpRichard MacCutchan8 Feb '13 - 0:00
Every time I post a solution in Q&A I get the response: We have tried to add your answer 3 times without success. Our servers are just a little overworked. Sorry.. However, if I refresh the page, or load it from a different browser tab, the post appears to have been successful. If I use the question or comment link, it works fine.

It's the same issue as reported a couple of times below.

SuggestionLike Or My Favourite Article Listmemberashu20017 Feb '13 - 21:47
Dear Code Project Team,
One thing which i feel might be a very good feature if included in the code project will be "User must be given a option to like or follow any post " so that in near future he wishes to refer that article he must not search it again or look for it any where else. In this case where ever user logs in on whatever location he will be having a quick access to his liked links or bookmarked links.

With Regards

GeneralRe: Like Or My Favourite Article ListprotectorPete O'Hanlon7 Feb '13 - 22:33
Ashish, you can already bookmark a post or article. If you look at the bottom of a post, there are a list of options - one of which is Bookmark. In an article, look to the right hand side. There's a section called About Article. Below the tags in this section there are three options - the first one is to bookmark the article.

To see your bookmarked items, hover the mouse over your name at the top of the page - the drop down shows an option called "My Bookmarks". If you go into that page, you can choose the different type of bookmark you want to look at.

SuggestionCannot submit a solutionmemberBernhard Hiller6 Feb '13 - 21:43
Whenever I click the "Submit your solution!" button, it takes some seconds, till I see the message "We have tried to add your answer 3 times without success. Our servers are just a little overworked. Sorry.". I tried several times during the last hour...
GeneralRe: Cannot submit a solutionmemberFred Flams7 Feb '13 - 2:46
Well actually I have the same problem, even though my solutions are correctly submitted.
And when I look at my reputation history I can see multiple lines corresponding to my answer and each time, points seem to be awarded and if I come back to the question page I can see my answer has been posted..... D'Oh! |
GeneralRe: Cannot submit a solutionmemberRedDK7 Feb '13 - 7:20
Same here.

Plus, since the message was a "sorry", I just pasted the ANSWER as a COMMENT (which didn't appear quite so "sorry")
Bugbug in score count [modified]memberAarti Meswania6 Feb '13 - 21:04
error while casting a column name[^]
when I update this answer,
1. and submit it, it was posted as new answer solution 2
2. it was showing error posting answer (some lines above solution in red lines) as below
We have tried to add your answer 3 times without success. Our servers are just a little overworked. Sorry.
so I re-click button to posting answer successfully and then I got 10 points 23 times = 230 point
may be I have click button 23 times but strange thing is entry in post as solution2 only not solution3,4...23,
In short for single solution I got 10 point 23 times

hope you understand what I say
so, please correct that and remove entries of 10 points which I got 23 times for single solution "error while casting a column name"

Hasn't happened to me yet. But if that's the case, CP staff need to do something really soon.

GeneralRe: bug in score countmemberFred Flams7 Feb '13 - 3:20
Has been happening to me for the last two hours.
I reckon I have tried to hit multiple times the submit button the frist it happened to me, and then I saw this serie of posts and resolved to hit the submit only once... and I get too many point awarded for one single hit..... I must have something like nearly 200 points too many on my reputation
GeneralRe: bug in score countmemberAnkur\m/7 Feb '13 - 3:31
Oh that also explains me the reason for multiple posts for same answer. I recently saw it at couple of places.

I guess this particular scenario could be browser specific. I am using Firefox and haven't had any issue (not at least multiple rep points even clicking the submit once). I am sure CP team must be on it.

GeneralI was just about to report the sameprotectorPete O'Hanlon6 Feb '13 - 23:29
Guys, I am at the top of the QA Experts list right now and I don't think I've answered enough to be there. This has prompted me to take a look at my reputation (something I don't like doing) and I see that there are multiple entries for the same answer - answers where the server reported it was unsuccessful posting the answer, and yet my answer was there.

Could you please remove the rogue points from my account please? They haven't been earned and I don't want this to overshadow the sterling work that others are doing answering questions in there. If I don't deserve to appear in the list because of legitimate replies, then I shouldn't be there.

Hmmm. It seems that this is one case where I do care about the points. Who knew that too many points would be the thing that upset me?

Yup. I've even gone back to a shop to return a packet of biscuits that had been packed into my bag but obviously belonged to the person who'd been at the till before me. I hadn't paid for them so they weren't mine.

If I'd go back into a shop to return an unpaid item packed into my bag, they would put me in jail thinking I had stolen it.

Same here, the points capture system seems to be a little wayward at the moment.
BugRe: bug in score countmemberMatthew Faithfull7 Feb '13 - 0:42
Just checked my recent points list and can confirm the same. One answer posted just once and the points registered 8 times.
The good news however is that email notification are coming through really fast now. Keep up the good work and all that.

I have discovered how the people in Q&A who are amassing ridiculous points per question answered are doing it.
They are simply hitting the Submit Solution button over and over again when submitting an answer. The answer only gets posted once, but they get +10 rep points for each click. I just tried it on this[^] question and was able to garner 48 +10 rep point records.
I wasn't, now I am, then I won't be anymore.

GeneralRe: Eureka!!!memberMatthew Faithfull6 Feb '13 - 7:22
That's a great spot but I'm not sure it's the whole answer. I answered an old question of Nagy's from October I think on the unanswered C++ list and got 200 points for it a couple of days ago. No idea why and I certainly didn't hit Submit more than once. Anyway I enjoyed my brief forray onto the CP most useful person list Smile | :)

I wonder if the same happy-clickey-finger issue happens on the voting buttons as well, in which case you could get a bunch of upvotes with only the one vote appearing on the answer.

Then the mystery deepens, or the Finger's just not up to job. Either way I can only suggest that Mr Graus perhaps do some micro surgery on Bob's brain to go after a particular incident like the one I mentioned or your trial and see what happened. If I have to sacrifice a couple of hundred points for the greater good and all that I'm sure I'll get over it Cry | :((

Nopes. I recently observed that the answer acceptance by a high rep is also multiple of 25 and not just 25 that we generally see in our history (because of low rep guys asking and marking it solved.) Saying this, just like other places, for platinum member marking it solved has a multipler 8 to it leading to 200 points in a go.

SuggestionArticle views vs votesmemberMatthew Faithfull6 Feb '13 - 3:37
Given that it might be possible to exclude web crawlers and search bots completely from indexing articles but that we obviously don't want to. Is it possible, while letting them in not to count them towards article view counts.
While I find it difficult although not impossible to believe that 2000 real people might choose to read 'some stuff what I wrote' I don't find it believable that none of them hated it enough to say so. It would be nice to be proved wrong.
Clearly this can't be done retrospectively which might cause some comparability issues but I still think it would be an improvement.

Hi

Please provide some option where people who are down voting some of the questions can give the reason for that.. so that it will be easy to know that what is wrong in our question..if someone is not providing any reason please don't allow them to down vote..

Hope you will think over it..

Thank you

This has been discussed many times. Potentially one of three things could happen.
  1. People will stop downvoting bad questions because there will be a temptation for people to take up revenge voting.
  2. People will create sockpuppet accounts specifically downvote questions
  3. People will just enter meaningless rubbish like asa;sldifj as the reason
