What’s new in this release?

The long awaited version of Aspose.Cells for .NET 7.4.0 has been released. This month’s release includes an enhancement for advanced conditional formatting when converting worksheet to image files. We have also made an enhancement to the Microsoft Excel ruler which is not displayed when setting Page Layout view. We have improved the performance of Excel to PDF rendering, sometimes the process hanged a bit for certain Excel files. In this release, several important issues have been addressed. For example, issues around rendering spreadsheets (XLS, XLSX etc.), protecting sheets, rendering PivotTables, encrypting files and exporting to PDF have been resolved. Issues pertaining to the formula calculation engine have also been fixed. We have made a few enhancements in Aspose.Cells for .NET’s web based Grid control. For example, GridWeb can now read list data validations in the template file and you can write code for drawing object and shape Click events. We also made enhancements and fixes so that the GridWeb control works smoothly with browser types other than Internet Explorer types (for example, Google Chrome, FireFox, and Safari) when performing insert and edit operations. We have also fixed an issue in the desktop based Grid control provided by Aspose.Cells for .NET to improve moving and navigating to cells using the keyboard. This release includes few enhanced features and plenty of bug fixes as listed below

Saaspose.OCR is a REST API for optical character recognition and document scanning. Saaspose.OCR API also supports character recognition for multiple languages such as English, French and Spanish. The accuracy, high speed and ease of use make Saaspose.OCR the perfect choice for text extraction from images in cloud. Previously, we have provided SDK and REST examples for text extraction from images in different programming languages such as .NET, RUBY and Java. We have recently added examples in PHP that you can utilize in your applications and enjoy the effective text extraction feature. Saaspose.OCR supports text extraction from whole images and a specific block of an image as well. There are two approaches to extract the text from images such as documents, PDFs, or TIFF images. The first method involves the process of file uploading on Saaspose storage using Saaspose.OCR REST API. Once the file is uploaded on the storage, you can extract the text from image using Saaspose.OCR examples in PHP. The second method is that you can directly extract image text from files on your local system using Saaspose.OCR REST API and SDKs without saving the file to Saaspose storage. Using the file path or stream, you can extract text from images or you may choose to extract text from a specific block of an image. Wellington, NZ, February 8, 2013 - Mindscape is thrilled to announce the launch of Raygun.io – the best way to track, manage and report on software errors automatically.

Raygun is a hosted Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) product, designed to assist companies in improving the reliability of their software by providing timely and manageable feedback on software errors. Raygun ensures that teams get sensible notifications, rather than one per error, that gives trend analysis and keeps them updated as an error progresses. The website gives instant insight into the overall health of the software it is monitoring – outstanding errors, grouped lists of errors, how the software errors are trending and more. Once an error occurs Raygun records as much information about it as possible to help developers resolve bugs more quickly.

Raygun has been running in private beta for several months and it is already processing more than 1000,000 software errors per day. “We’re excited to see the volume of use that Raygun is already receiving. Even more satisfying is the feedback from end users – one customer had Raygun help them discover an issue that was costing them thousands of dollars a day and they had no idea it was happening!” said John-Daniel Trask, co-founder of Mindscape.

Raygun customers integrate a small component into their software. This often takes fewer than 5 minutes to do and can start seeing results immediately after that.

The Raygun service has been under development for six months and has a dedicated team actively evolving the product at Mindscape – both in terms of the hosted application and in adding support for new programming languages and frameworks. Currently there is support for .NET, PHP, Java and WinRT, with support for Objective-C, Ruby and JavaScript coming very soon. Developers can of course use the REST API directly to post messages into Raygun from any source.

Raygun is debuting with payment options ranging from $9 per month to $199 per month depending on the needs of the team. All data is hosted securely and all communication with the Raygun service is done via 256-bit SSL encrypted connections.

What's New in this Release?

The long awaited version of Aspose.Words for .NET & Java (13.1.0) has been released. This month’s release provides access to the layout engine in the Aspose.Words API. The most demanding feature requested by more than a hundred of our users. After this feature now it is possible to find the page number where a particular node is located. Find the X, Y location and size of a node as rendered on the page and split & extract individual pages from a document. Enumerate the individual elements on a page, e.g pages, lines, spans and add a different image to each page of a document (without using the header or footer). The first version of Aspose.Words was released in late 2003 and since then everyone on the Aspose.Words team has been working hard, releasing new versions every month or so packed full with features and improvements. As a result we have a great product with many releases under our belt. However we have noticed that from that versioning scheme it is hard to know what version belongs to what release date, which when dealing with subscriptions can make for some confusion. Therefore starting with this month’s release we are making it easier to track both Aspose.Words for .NET and Aspose.Words for Java versions by using the scheme <Year>.<Month>.<Hotfix>. Because this month’s release is for January 2013, this month’s version of Aspose.Words is 13.1.0. Next month it will be 13.2.0 and so forth. To make things better and easier for both our developers and the users of Aspose.Words, we have decided to dismiss support for the .NET Framework 1.1 from the Aspose.Words for .NET product. This means starting from this release we no longer ship the special DLLs targeting the .NET Framework 1.1 with Aspose.Words for .NET. New WSO2 Stratos cartridge architecture allows developers to plug in WSO2 Carbon middleware and third-party software into fully multi-tenant PaaS

London – February 13, 2013 – As more enterprises migrate applications to the cloud, they seek to take advantage of the frameworks, middleware, and other software tools already in their data centers, as well as the different clouds available. Today WSO2 (http://wso2.com) unveiled its answer to this growing demand with the beta release of WSO2 Stratos 2.0. Newly re-architected, WSO2 Stratos 2.0 (http://wso2.com/cloud/stratos) is the industry’s first foundation for implementing a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) that combines support for heterogeneous applications and service-oriented architecture (SOA) platform runtimes with native, secure multi-tenancy. WSO2 Stratos 2.0 also adds the capability to run on any cloud infrastructure, including VMware, Eucalyptus, Amazon and OpenStack.

WSO2 previewed the latest release of WSO2 Stratos at WSO2Con 2013 (http://wso2con.com), which runs February 13-14 in London. The company also announced that it has begun accepting customers for the WSO2 Stratos 2.0 beta program.

However, until now they’ve had to make trade-offs between using their favorite development tools and middleware or capitalizing on the multi-tenancy of a native cloud environment. With WSO2 Stratos 2.0, these organizations no longer have to compromise,” said Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana, WSO2 founder and CEO.

Expanding the Scope of Multi-tenancy
The Stratos 2.0 approach to multi-tenancy goes beyond other PaaS environments to support multiple levels of virtualization—from standard virtual machines, via Linux Containers to intra-JVM isolation. This choice of sharing resources while providing the correct isolation level for multiple tenants is a significant factor in enabling lower costs, greater flexibility, and easier on-ramping into a private or public cloud environment.

The new tenant-aware elastic load balancer in Stratos 2.0 is a first-of-a-kind capability that allows the environment to provide highly tunable performance to different tenants, ranging from “economy class” for low priority workloads up to “private jet” mode for workloads that require dedicated resources.

Plugging in Multi-tenant Cloud Capabilities
At the heart of Version 2.0 is a new cartridge architecture for plugging software into WSO2 Stratos to take advantage of cloud-native capabilities, such as multi-tenancy, elastic scaling, self-service provisioning, metering, billing, and resource pooling, among others. As a result, WSO2 Stratos 2.0 is able to run, not only 13 WSO2 Carbon enterprise middleware products, but also a choice of frameworks, databases, and other application services.

WSO2 Stratos 2.0 also significantly enhances PaaS deployment through an integration layer that uses the popular jclouds technology to allow it to run on any infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) including OpenStack, VMware, Eucalyptus and CloudStack. Additionally, use of the Puppet open source tool for infrastructure deployment in this release makes it easier than ever to install and configure Stratos in a private or public cloud environment. Like all WSO2 software, WSO2 Stratos 2.0 is 100% open source and will be made available under the Apache License 2.0.

Report’s Evaluation of WSO2 API Manager

Jelastic, Inc., the creators of the ultra scalable and interoperable Java and PHP cloud hosting platform of the same name, today announced its commercial launch in Finland through its local partner Planeetta Internet Oy. Jelastic is the first PaaS (Platform-as-a-Service) offering that can run any Java or PHP application without lock-in or code changes.

The latest version of Aspose.Pdf for .NET (7.7.0) has been released. In this release, we have introduced new and useful features such as rendering text as text rather than graphic objects when printing documents. It makes the printing feature more viable and robust when it comes to the usage of the Document as well as PdfViewer classes. One of the new features regarding document conversion is rendering headers and footers as Microsoft Word headers and footers when converting PDFs to DOCs. Aspose development team is pleased to announce the new release Aspose.Imaging for Java 1.7.0. The last version of Aspose.Imaging for Java is ported from Aspose.Imaging for .NET 1.7.0. This month’s release provides extensive support for TIFF image format manipulation. You can now load TIFF images and export any image to TIFF format. This release also provides the means to concatenate several images to one multi-page TIFF as well as save each frame/page of a multi-page TIFF to a separate image of any supported format or exporting TIFF image with compression algorithms – for example CCITT4 and CCITT3 – PSD layer manipulation, rotate and flip image are a few of those new features. You can now load GIF images that include the interlaced images. You can also export any image to GIF with LZW compression. Palo Alto, CA – February 7, 2013 – WSO2 (http://wso2.com) today announced that WSO2 Founder and CEO Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana will deliver a keynote presentation on “Strategies to Deliver a Contextual API Experience” at the API Strategy and Practice Conference (http://www.apistrategyconference.com). Additionally, WSO2 Vice President of Technology Evangelism Chris Haddad will present a session on API strategy and join other API infrastructure providers in a panel discussion on today’s solutions for API management. WSO2 is a Gold Sponsor of the API Strategy and Practice Conference, which will run February 21-22, 2013 at Westin Grand Central in New York, NY.

Keynote: Strategies to Deliver a Contextual API Experience
In his keynote, “Strategies to Deliver a Contextual API Experience,” Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana will explore how a contextual API can converge locations, behaviors, preferences, and relationships to expose a personalized interaction channel and increase consumer engagement. Sanjiva will examine how digital business and API strategies are evolving to embrace the long tail, power social commerce, and create a pull economy. Additionally, he will dig into how econometrics and analytics guide long tail delivery, as well as API design guidelines to extend the reach of social commerce. Finally, Sanjiva will discuss how context awareness and personalization create a pull economy. The keynote will run 3:40-4:00 p.m. on February 22, 2013.

Sanjiva founded WSO2 in 2005 in order to reinvent the way enterprise middleware is developed, delivered and supported through an open source model. He has played a pioneering role in open source standards for many years. An elected Apache Software Foundation member, he is the original creator of Apache SOAP, and he is a contributor to Apache Axis, Apache Axis2, and most Apache Web services projects.

Presentation: Adopting a Successful API Product Mindset
To successfully deliver and evolve APIs, organizations must build an API strategy that incorporates digital business best practices and an agile architecture. In his “Adopt a Successful API Product Mindset” session, Chris Haddad will explore how API design influences API adoption. He also will examine where API governance and lifecycle management intersects with service-oriented architecture (SOA) governance. Additionally, Chris will discuss how to avoid the “new today, legacy tomorrow” API trap. The session is part of the event’s “API Lifecycle, Methodology and Architecture” track, which runs from 1:35-3:00 p.m. on February 22, 2013.

Chris Haddad is WSO2 vice president of technology evangelism. He works closely with developers, architects, and C-level executives to increase WSO2 technology adoption, improve the middleware platform, and maximize customer value. Prior to joining WSO2, Chris led research teams as a research vice president at the Burton Group and Gartner advising Fortune 500 enterprise organizations and technology infrastructure vendors.

Panel: API Infrastructure Providers
Today, APIs rely on third-party systems, software and services to operate. The “API Infrastructure Providers” panel will bring together API infrastructure providers to examine various offerings on the market today.
