M-Shwari logs 40,000 customers per day crossing Ksh1 billion
in transactions a month with core banking integration from Fiorano

Fiorano Software, a leader in enterprise integration and messaging middleware solutions, announced today that Fiorano ESB, Enterprise Service Bus has been deployed by Commercial Bank of Africa (CBA) to enable M-Shwari, an innovative and revolutionary mobile savings and loan service product.

M-Shwari, considered a “game-changing” banking product is offered by CBA exclusively to 17 million users of Kenyan mobile operator, Safaricom’s mobile payment system, M-PESA. Customers can now access full banking services without ever having to walk into a branch.

Fiorano ESB, Enterprise Service Bus works as an integral part of CBA’s Core banking Integration Framework, transforming one-to-one approach to integration into many-to-many integration hub allowing seamless integration with third-party applications.

According to a joint statement from Safaricom and CBA, M-Shwari is seeing 40,000 Kenyans sign-ups daily. With customer deposits of over KSh 3 billion, it’s one of the most successful new financial services products in the African market in recent years.

Seen as the perfect customer attraction and retention tool, CBA’s Chief Executive Officer Jeremy Ngunze in a recent interview said, “We are overwhelmed at the show of confidence from our customers. This product will clearly change the game in the local financial sector”.

Fiorano’s code-free integration approach via point and click tools dramatically reduces implementation time so banks can bring new capabilities to market faster. M-Shwari’s mobile banking transactions are routed to a web service hosted on CBA server. Using the Fiorano SOA platform CBA has developed web service flows to expose these Core Banking transactions.

WSO2 director of defense and government solutions is recognized for his book, “Allied Rifle Contracts in America” and contributions to firearms research

Palo Alto, CA – March 4, 2013 – Effective navigation of the modern defense acquisition space requires the ability to understand and absorb the lessons of the past. The Historic Breechloading Smallarms Association (HBSA) has recognized Adam Firestone, WSO2 director of defense and government solutions, for his achievement in this area, naming Adam a recipient of HBSA’s 2012 President’s Cup and Gold Medal.

The award recognizes Adam’s contributions to firearms research and the book he co-authored, “Allied Rifle Contracts in America,” which covers the production of rifles in American factories for Allied powers during World War I prior to the United States’ entry into the war. What’s new in this release?

The long awaited version of Aspose.Cells for .NET 7.4.0 has been released. This month’s release includes an enhancement for advanced conditional formatting when converting worksheet to image files. We have also made an enhancement to the Microsoft Excel ruler which is not displayed when setting Page Layout view. We have improved the performance of Excel to PDF rendering, sometimes the process hanged a bit for certain Excel files. In this release, several important issues have been addressed. For example, issues around rendering spreadsheets (XLS, XLSX etc.), protecting sheets, rendering PivotTables, encrypting files and exporting to PDF have been resolved. Issues pertaining to the formula calculation engine have also been fixed. We have made a few enhancements in Aspose.Cells for .NET’s web based Grid control. For example, GridWeb can now read list data validations in the template file and you can write code for drawing object and shape Click events. We also made enhancements and fixes so that the GridWeb control works smoothly with browser types other than Internet Explorer types (for example, Google Chrome, FireFox, and Safari) when performing insert and edit operations. Saaspose.OCR is a REST API for optical character recognition and document scanning. Saaspose.OCR API also supports character recognition for multiple languages such as English, French and Spanish. The accuracy, high speed and ease of use make Saaspose.OCR the perfect choice for text extraction from images in cloud. Previously, we have provided SDK and REST examples for text extraction from images in different programming languages such as .NET, RUBY and Java. We are pleased to announce the new release of Aspose.Email for Java 2.6.0. With this release, PST contents can now be saved to a memory stream by enumerating MessageInfo or message Entry IDs. Raygun is a hosted Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) product, designed to assist companies in improving the reliability of their software by providing timely and manageable feedback on software errors. Raygun ensures that teams get sensible notifications, rather than one per error, that gives trend analysis and keeps them updated as an error progresses. The website gives instant insight into the overall health of the software it is monitoring – outstanding errors, grouped lists of errors, how the software errors are trending and more. Once an error occurs Raygun records as much information about it as possible to help developers resolve bugs more quickly.

Raygun has been running in private beta for several months and it is already processing more than 1000,000 software errors per day. “We’re excited to see the volume of use that Raygun is already receiving. Even more satisfying is the feedback from end users – one customer had Raygun help them discover an issue that was costing them thousands of dollars a day and they had no idea it was happening!” said John-Daniel Trask, co-founder of Mindscape.

Raygun customers integrate a small component into their software. This often takes fewer than 5 minutes to do and can start seeing results immediately after that.

The Raygun service has been under development for six months and has a dedicated team actively evolving the product at Mindscape – both in terms of the hosted application and in adding support for new programming languages and frameworks. Currently there is support for .NET, PHP, Java and WinRT, with support for Objective-C, Ruby and JavaScript coming very soon. Developers can of course use the REST API directly to post messages into Raygun from any source.

Raygun is debuting with payment options ranging from $9 per month to $199 per month depending on the needs of the team. All data is hosted securely and all communication with the Raygun service is done via 256-bit SSL encrypted connections.

What's New in this Release?

The long awaited version of Aspose.Words for .NET & Java (13.1.0) has been released. This month’s release provides access to the layout engine in the Aspose.Words API. The most demanding feature requested by more than a hundred of our users. After this feature now it is possible to find the page number where a particular node is located. Find the X, Y location and size of a node as rendered on the page and split & extract individual pages from a document. Enumerate the individual elements on a page, e.g pages, lines, spans and add a different image to each page of a document (without using the header or footer). The first version of Aspose.Words was released in late 2003 and since then everyone on the Aspose.Words team has been working hard, releasing new versions every month or so packed full with features and improvements. As a result we have a great product with many releases under our belt. However we have noticed that from that versioning scheme it is hard to know what version belongs to what release date, which when dealing with subscriptions can make for some confusion. Therefore starting with this month’s release we are making it easier to track both Aspose.Words for .NET and Aspose.Words for Java versions by using the scheme <Year>.<Month>.<Hotfix>. Because this month’s release is for January 2013, this month’s version of Aspose.Words is 13.1.0. Next month it will be 13.2.0 and so forth. To make things better and easier for both our developers and the users of Aspose.Words, we have decided to dismiss support for the .NET Framework 1.1 from the Aspose.Words for .NET product. This means starting from this release we no longer ship the special DLLs targeting the .NET Framework 1.1 with Aspose.Words for .NET. New WSO2 Stratos cartridge architecture allows developers to plug in WSO2 Carbon middleware and third-party software into fully multi-tenant PaaS

London – February 13, 2013 – As more enterprises migrate applications to the cloud, they seek to take advantage of the frameworks, middleware, and other software tools already in their data centers, as well as the different clouds available. Today WSO2 (http://wso2.com) unveiled its answer to this growing demand with the beta release of WSO2 Stratos 2.0. Newly re-architected, WSO2 Stratos 2.0 (http://wso2.com/cloud/stratos) is the industry’s first foundation for implementing a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) that combines support for heterogeneous applications and service-oriented architecture (SOA) platform runtimes with native, secure multi-tenancy. WSO2 Stratos 2.0 also adds the capability to run on any cloud infrastructure, including VMware, Eucalyptus, Amazon and OpenStack.

WSO2 previewed the latest release of WSO2 Stratos at WSO2Con 2013 (http://wso2con.com), which runs February 13-14 in London. The company also announced that it has begun accepting customers for the WSO2 Stratos 2.0 beta program.

“Increasingly enterprises view the cloud as a platform for innovation. However, until now they’ve had to make trade-offs between using their favorite development tools and middleware or capitalizing on the multi-tenancy of a native cloud environment. With WSO2 Stratos 2.0, these organizations no longer have to compromise,” said Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana, WSO2 founder and CEO.

Expanding the Scope of Multi-tenancy
The Stratos 2.0 approach to multi-tenancy goes beyond other PaaS environments to support multiple levels of virtualization—from standard virtual machines, via Linux Containers to intra-JVM isolation. This choice of sharing resources while providing the correct isolation level for multiple tenants is a significant factor in enabling lower costs, greater flexibility, and easier on-ramping into a private or public cloud environment.

The new tenant-aware elastic load balancer in Stratos 2.0 is a first-of-a-kind capability that allows the environment to provide highly tunable performance to different tenants, ranging from “economy class” for low priority workloads up to “private jet” mode for workloads that require dedicated resources.

Plugging in Multi-tenant Cloud Capabilities
At the heart of Version 2.0 is a new cartridge architecture for plugging software into WSO2 Stratos to take advantage of cloud-native capabilities, such as multi-tenancy, elastic scaling, self-service provisioning, metering, billing, and resource pooling, among others. As a result, WSO2 Stratos 2.0 is able to run, not only 13 WSO2 Carbon enterprise middleware products, but also a choice of frameworks, databases, and other application services.

What's New in this Release?

The latest version of Aspose.Pdf for .NET (7.7.0) has been released. In this release, we have introduced new and useful features such as rendering text as text rather than graphic objects when printing documents. It makes the printing feature more viable and robust when it comes to the usage of the Document as well as PdfViewer classes. One of the new features regarding document conversion is rendering headers and footers as Microsoft Word headers and footers when converting PDFs to DOCs. In this release, we also support many classes including Table, Row, Cell, MarginInfo, BorderInfo etc. in the Aspose.Pdf namespace which were earlier in the Aspose.Pdf.Generator namespace. These changes let you add table objects to existing features. You can also add a table into the header and footer sections of existing PDF files. Prior to the release of Aspose.Pdf for .NET 7.7.0, we only supported adding JavaScript to document actions. With this release, you can add JavaScript against page actions. To accomplish this, we’ve implemented the PageActionCollection. Aspose team has also made many improvements in terms of performance, XPS to PDF, HTML to PDF, PDF to image rendering, PDF concatenation and much more. What’s new in this release?

Aspose development team is pleased to announce the new release Aspose.Imaging for Java 1.7.0. The last version of Aspose.Imaging for Java is ported from Aspose.Imaging for .NET 1.7.0. This month’s release provides extensive support for TIFF image format manipulation. You can now load TIFF images and export any image to TIFF format. This release also provides the means to concatenate several images to one multi-page TIFF as well as save each frame/page of a multi-page TIFF to a separate image of any supported format or exporting TIFF image with compression algorithms – for example CCITT4 and CCITT3 – PSD layer manipulation, rotate and flip image are a few of those new features. You can now load GIF images that include the interlaced images. You can also export any image to GIF with LZW compression. We are happy to announce the release of Aspose.Tasks for .NET 5.1.0. Rendering of complete Project data was supported earlier. With the current release, however, Aspose.Tasks now supports rendering individual views of a project to various output formats. It’s official, It’s been no surprise that I am interested in security I with a colleague at work have started an OWASP local chapter. The chapter had previously been set up and had 1 meeting, however it fell by the way side. A couple of weeks ago a counter part to the role that I play recently asked me what I thought about co-leading a OWASP local chapter. I thought about it and quickly agreed. We restarted the chapter and took it over, we are planning our first meeting on February 26, 2013.
