True... also, I think they have painted themselves into a corner, at least so far as this tour is concerned. What happens if any of the rest of them get injured between now and the start of the match? Backing down on the bans would make the situation worse.

I came to know about this only today and came here to post about it. Noticed you had already posted.
It is definitely a strange move.
But in some ways, it is justified.
Any team on a loosing streak does go through similar crisis.
Ganguly, Dhoni and Sehwag sagas in Indian cricket were similar.
It was just that the team management did not take such drastic steps while Cricket Australia puts cricket above stardom and is able to do so.
Voting card are going to be replaced by Adhaar-card
only 30 Adhaar-cards issuing from one center a day.
We have applied for correction of mistakes in Identity(voting) cards before 2 yrs still didn't get new card
I think there will be no lucky home in India whose all members have a correct information in voting card.
for Driving Licence ,RTO asking for voting card/adhaar card we don't have adhaar card & voting card has mistakes. Many citizens are facing same problem...
After 60+ yrs of freedom, Our govt. is not able to provide proper identity card to citizens :(
they will not provide voting(identity) cards because aadhar card is going to be unique id so why govt. will issue two different cards!, it's very simple.
If you are talking of logic, I am afraid that does not stands at most of the scenarios with Indian government in such cases. Do you have any confirm news from someone or some published link for the same?
Replacing voting card with aadhar card sounds like a joke for now based on the number of people involved and the documents needed for aadhar. BTW, if you have seen aadhar card, you would also notice that there is no EXACT date of birth written anywhere - just the month and year.
VoterID is still being issued. I know someone who got it around couple of months back. It's just that, all the processes are pretty slow. Though, one might get it quickly if they have right connections or know people/process correctly.
It discusses if such thing should be done. Not a news or a verdict by anyone that it is being done. Aadhar card admins can write anything they like, they want their card to be most important.
But sorry, I guess, as per me, PAN & VoterID will still be top two in coming years based on number of people who have them.

Overall, VoterIds not being replaced officially by Aadhar cards.
They accept any id card ( passport, pan card with address) for voting and there is no linkage between voting card and aadhar. Since these are issued by different agancies I feel government will continue issuing them to keep the interests of issuing agencies.
