Today WiFi devices broadcast a relatively weak signal, but do it to every direction. A 'beam' means a powerful signal directed to some specific direction. It may solve the problem for high frequency signals, but what will happened to the materials (like your brain) in-between? Does Samsung test it too?

If you think IoT is an end consumer technology you may be disappointed. The "things" are more likely to be smart meters, smart pallets, smart lighting, mailroom robots etc. Things that reduce the cost of doing business.
(But not to worry - these things will probably make your consumer things cheaper)

I have yet to see one of those promises come true. What you end up hearing more often than not is "we have to raise prices to pay for all the infrastructure."
And at the end of the day, it's not cheaper for the consumer that has lost his job, replaced by some robot.[^]
The shifts in socio-economics are going to keep coming faster and faster.

They are indeed going to come faster and faster, but they are also inevitable so we need to plan for them.

Most changes can seem marginal until they reach a tipping point, then they can change the world very fast. This tipping point seems to be around 18%.
So if 18% of a certain market gets automated/innovated, the rest will have to follow or die. The first 18% is expensive and evolves slow; you think it'll take forever before it will become important, but once it reaches the tipping point it will suddenly starts to become cheap very fast.
But likewise, if 18% of the population becomes economically disadvantaged because of massive automation, will it kick off a social revolution? I think it's the same thing.

I have to maintain a ColdFusion site that was originally written by a noob, which was then handed off to a second noob, which was in turn handed off to a third noob.
Now, I understand that we were all noobs at one point, but it would seem that noob #1 wasn't mentored or monitored at all, nor was he made to correct any of his glaring mistakes, including the multiple hard coded drop downs of states, etc. And I have serious doubts as to whether the other two noobs were mentored either.
But, there is, buried deep in the guts of the site, a template named HandleEverything, I kid you not.
Comments from work:- "Why can't you just do it like everybody else?"
