Oh, the VPN annoys the bejeebers out of me now. Especially as I had to "upgrade" to phone verification, so now it's four clicks, find iPad, run the authenticator app, wait for it to realize I'm trying to connect, enter my PIN, and another click. Definitely too many steps back (plus, Edge is lame).

Like I told Maunder a few weeks back[^] when he first complained about 4 clicks instead of two, your first world problems leave me remarkably unsumpathetic:
The short version of my current Weven VPN experience in 20 easy steps is:
0) Click start.
1) Click on the Cisco VPN app pinned on the start menu (because I can never remember WTE it's called to use search).
2) Click on the Connect button on the app which opens by the tray.
3) Realize I forgot my VPN password.
4) Start a new explorer instance.
5) Double click on My Documents.
6) Find the GPG encrypted file the VPN password is in.
7) Double click on it.
8) Wait for GPG to open.
9) Click on Decrypt.
10) Enter my password.
11) Click OK.
12) Open the file.
13) Enter the password and token from my RSA key into the VPN app.
14) Click connect.
15) Wait.
16) Click OK to dismiss the welcome banner I get sent by my employer.
17) Close the password file.
18) Right click on the decrypted password file.
19) Select secure erase from the context menu.
It gets even more fun if my VPN password has expired and I need to add steps to change it including waiting a minute for the next RSA token number and then updating and re-encrypting the password file. And you're whining about a mere four clicks.

Did I add the part where it drops my VPN regularly, and I've had to do my steps 10 times in a day (and I only do half days)?
I didn't say I had it worst, just that they really took a step back in Wen. And yeah, IT departments suck the joy out of life.

I'd advise you go with something like keypass for those "forgotten" / "randomized" passwords ... might save a few steps for you.

Just wondering ... what's with the "new" Threashold moniker?
Is it to indicate some sort of ... you're on the "EDGE" and about to fall to death? Or are they going to "rename" Windows in the future to "Doors" instead?

It's a Halo reference (I think Threshold was the planet next to the ringworld or summut), but beyond that, I don't know the connection. Maybe they're calling for Master Chief to come save them.

Microsoft's re-entry into the browser market could have hit a roadblock: barely anybody is using it. We already have a browser that allows us to download Chrome

Interesting to see that while Chrome is definitely king, both Edge and IE combined outscore Firefox usage on Windows 10.
To my own surprise, I use Edge a lot since I moved to Windows 10. At first, I thought that I'll be just continuing to use IE because everybody was whining about the lack of features and incompleteness of Edge, but actually the slim and spartan (pun intended) nature of the browser is a great plus to me. It's clean and simple and blazingly fast, and runs pretty smooth without many issues. It lacks an ad blocker right now, but that's not really a big deal because with a customized hosts file, you barely see any ads in Edge as well (sometimes I think the hosts file solution works even better than an ad blocker because it seems to me that if some sites detect you are using ad blocking software, they will push even more crap on you via hard to block CSS inline stuff etc.) Since I was never a friend of extensions in browsers because they just open up another target vector for malicious software, they're not really missing for me. I never understood what's so great about Chrome and extensions, but maybe that's because I'm old school and happy with having Favorites for important sites and don't use any of the social network crap etc. or have a million accounts for which I need a million different passwords to manage.

It is a great browser, however I just hate that input box for URL address doesn't appear when edge is first opened. It is extremely annoying to have to click to get the input. Not sure what was the UX team thinking.

Yeah, I like Edge also, but it is annoying and you can hardly tell if you're typing the URL in or what is going on. Quite a confusing interface.

I have merely spouted my opinion based on my experience of using IE and Chrome dev tools, I did make it clear I haven't dug deep into Edge yet.
Maybe have to one day (if I ever find the time) update my article to reflect changes in newer versions: Beginner Guide to Page and Script Debugging with Chrome[^]
How can I be ignoring reality? How can it be bias? It is purely MY opinion.....

I hate to say it, but I think Edge's tools are possibly better (at least in some ways) than Chrome. Chrome's good, but I find Edge's emulation nicer than Chrome (through Chrome seems to have upped the ante a little in that department, too).

That's true, but I've got the impression that the subjective part on this is very biased and still affected by a lot of prejudice from the past. I claim that a lot of people only use Chrome because it's just was everybody else around is using and claiming is better (the same goes for Firefox some years ago, with the difference that Firefox undoubtedly was better at the time) no matter how much that's based on actual facts. On the other hand, most of those people never thought about giving IE a second chance, no matter how much it improved after IE9. Preference is purely subjective, but especially in this case it's not free from outside influences.
Now maybe Edge's problem could be as simple as its icon. It clearly reminds of IE, and people recognize the blue E as being IE and not a completely different browser. Hence they ignore it.
