When I see MICROSOFT and FREE in same sentence, I wonder where is the catch 
Just think about the W10 free upgrade, they have such a heavy hand that the catch is mandatory.

The catch is many are moderately obsolescent. But if the systems you work with are moderately obsolescent, then the books are bang on.

The programming sandbox, seen through the eyes of devs, slightly misses the mark. Is that supposed to be an insult, or compliment?

Maybe both? Playgrounds are neat, and they can be fun and useful when doing exploratory programming. Using Clojure with Light Table is similar. But in both cases, putting together a simple application that accomplishes useful business or personal tasks is more difficult than it was using HyperCard in 1987.
It's funny; I do web development every day, and I even like most of the tools I use. When I stop and really think about it, though, it kind of feels like I'm a caveman working with sticks and stones when I compare front end web development to the rapid development that was possible (and easy) with HyperCard and classic VB 20+ years ago.

Microsoft is making its renamed Windows 10 Enterprise version available as a subscription that's available for $84 per user per year and purchasable directly and through reseller partners. Stopping the nagging? Priceless.

An average Windows edition was about $150 (most). Let say you use it for 5 years...That's make it $30...
I can't see W10 3 times as good as W7...

Enterprise edition was closer to $320, although you could only buy it through volume licensing with a software assurance package.

Plus, if you upgraded to a new version every 2-3 years, you'd end up paying another $220 within that five year span. That would work out at somewhere close to $108/year.
It won't be a good fit for everyone, but it's certainly not three times the price.

I don't know that site, but a 5 license package was at $680 like 5 years ago...Directly from Microsoft (Israel)...

Storing business sensitive data on cloud located in unknown country, managed by unknown people, safe from foreign agencies (they said), safe from industrial spying (they said).

Done, I included a file with all my bank accounts, credit card information including pin codes and all internet account with passwords. Hope it's enough to change my business dramatically.
