How to access Scanner/Printer at client side from a webpage of web application using PHP?

Hi,

How could I access the scanner/printer etc. devices attached at the client side from the web page using php which is on web browser?

So on a button click of a web page, the scanner/printer should be access which is located at client.

Applet? Applet is java related. With javascript you can produce print request. But you can't print automatically.
If api is available you can also scan with applet, but you can't do it with javscript.

Yes, I have created an applet for scanner detection and scanning, it is working perfectly. But, my problem is that, I am not able to access it from the browser. When I try to access, the application is getting terminated.
