splash screen and custom shaped forms

question 1) how would i go on about making a splash screen similar to something like acrobat reader 10 or of nero with its translucent animated wavy lines??? can they be done in dotnet or do they need flash?

question 2) when i am making a windows application (not website or web based but windows based), the 'windows form' on which one places the controls are square or rectangular shaped. but some apps like some keygens/patches have custom shapes...
How can i make such a custom shape for my app in dotnet using visual studio c#???
if visual studio is not the way to go, please give some suggestions.
