I'd like to know if, and then how, to embed HTML and javascript into a Word 2010 document so as to for instance change a font depending on contents of an external file. The HTML and javascript of course will not show in the word document, thll just be lurking and will run when the document is opened or when some item in the document is clicked, say. Anybody?

You may embed HTML in word using PHPDocX but that would strip al the javascript.
