How to Send a notification message to an EC2 Instance

Hi,

I am working on a little project, where I have to start and stop EC2 instances remotely using AWS SDK for .Net. I am able to start and stop but before doing Shutdown I need to send a notification message to machine saying that machine will be stopped soon. How can i do this ?
Please help...
