I have created a base form containing a DataGridView without any columns defined. I have also created a new form that inherits from the base form. I would like to be able to add columns to the new form using the designer but the properties are read-only. I can add columns programmatically in the new form but this is somewhat tedious and would be much easier using the designer. Is there a way to use the designer or must I manually code the columns in the new form?

The DataGridView modifier is Protected and I can make changes programmatically in my new class. However, I would like to be able to use the designer if possible and not have to code it manually. When accessing the DataGridView properties they appear read-only.
