JMS VS Java Socket Programming

Hi there i am building a chat application for fun however i would like to know what would be better to sue jms or normal sockets, and what is so great about jms can someone explain to me what jms is in idiot notation please, as ive googled it and they go on about messaging.

JMS and socket both have different features.To learn about jms features, there are lots of tutorial.
And for fun purpose I would suggest you to go for socket.Its easy to implement over JMS(required to configure message server).
