Please how can I recover visual studio project from my formmated hard disk. I recently formated my hard disk because I has some issues with it. I though I had all the valuable files backed up but later found out that I had failed to back up a valuable visual studio project on which I had invested almost half a decade. I use windows XP and I Used NTFS quick format.

Try Recuva. It boasts of recovering data from formatted disks..

But remember that the data recovery is not 100% sure , in case of very ideal conditions too. But you must give a try. Its worth that http://www.piriform.com/recuva/features[^]

The most important thing is that you should not have used the disk for any other purpose after formatting.

See what Recuva says -

"Windows (and other operating systems) uses a hidden index on hard drives, USB drives, and memory cards. Instead of having to search through the entire drive for a file you request, all it has to do is look it up in the index -- a much faster process.
Unfortunately, if the index is damaged, Windows can no longer find your files, even if the files themselves haven't been corrupted. That's where Recuva comes in.
Unlike Windows, Recuva scans all parts of a drive, looking for the bits that make up your files. If a drive's index has been damaged, chances are other parts of the drive may have been damaged too. Recuva will show you a list of files it has found on the drive, and give you an estimate of the likelihood of success of recovering them.
Similarly, when you format a drive (especially if you use the Quick Format option), Windows erases the hidden index but does not overwrite the existing files until you start saving new data to it. Recuva can still scan the drive's contents to find your files."

Solution 1

AFAIK, it's gone. If you failed to back them up, you cannot recover them now.

Probably, best possible option you have is to create new project and copy the data you have regarding them and rebuild everything.

So what is? You asked how to retrieve it, I told that it is not possible any more. It's vanished. Formatting clears everything.

Additionally, I suggested you something if you really want it. Take it or leave it - your decision.

I noticed you. Felt attacked. But if you know that what I lost is about over 10,000 lines of c++ codes written and improved over 5 yrs, you will see things in perspective.

yes it is to difficult to recover file if not recovered by NTFS.....but there is many recover tools and softwares that can help you to achieve your hard work credentials...

but in market no one give you confirmation to recover your file....becouse it is not 100% sure...

I uses R-Studio in the past with success. The main thing to improve the chance of success is to avoid using that disk except for recovery purpose and evrything you recover should be written to another drive. When I use it, there was a trial that allows me to test if files could be recovered thus you don't have to pay if it does not works.

Ya buddy there is several very good working tool that helps us exactly that we want to achieve like r-studio same as EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional 5.5.1 that is current i am using when something have to recover and same it is free trial and more efficient.....so catch that actually i want to say...........there is many tool that can help us or may not help..........

OK, so you formatted the drive. The question becomes did you do anything else to it, like install an operating system? Did you do more than that??

Why an I asking this? Because if you write anything to the drive after you formatted it, you decrease the chances of recovering anything from the drive the more data you put on it. Every time you write to the drive, you are risking overwriting the data from the previous format!

So, if you installed Windows, Visual Studio, and a bunch of other things, the chances of you overwriting your old project files get better and better.
