C++ 2010 Professional windows 7 speech recognition

I am totally lost as I try to get into speech recognition!!! help!!
How do I prepare my self to compile the .xml file to make a grammar??!!
Is the compiler a separate entity that I need to obtain??
If I can just do it with the command line what are the commands?
(Couldn't sift anything meaningfull out of MSDN's mass of confusion)
Is there anything that needs to be turned off in the speech recognition that allows
you to open folders in your operating system ect.???!!

I would greatly appreciate any help!!!! :-)

Wow things aren't going well--the site wn't let me acess Richards answer and now I accidentally clicked the "Solved it myself button"--ha ha what next!! :-(
