How does a website like codeproject typically search a large number of documents (articles etc)?

I am guessing a crawler with periodic indexing?

Why? I'm not reporting a bug.

First of all, please don't post questions as "answers".

You are right, but I advised that because that forum is visited by the members of the team supporting the site itself on a regular basis, unlike this forum. I'm sure it will be safe to ask an advice there.
You can provide a link to your question.
