Windows Media Player Skipping

I have a Windows Media Player control in vb.net and am running a mp3 stream off of it, however whenever the stream starts the first 40 seconds or so keep skipping frames, I've tried changing the buffering time but it makes no difference. The stream plays fine in the Windows Media Player client. Any ideas?
