How does MS Word or Visio display a page ? Is it VC++ Doc/View architecture ?

Solution 1

MS Word does not use MFC features or libraries. The technologies seen in MS Word (toolbar buttons, customizations, etc.) were all developed natively using "MS-Word only" code, I believe "always" before the features showed up in any Visual C++ libraries or features.

Visio was developed by a third party company and acquired by Microsoft. My understanding is that it had a similar development history as MS Word but I don't know as many details. In any case, it doesn't reference the MFC libraries.

I have one more question. We see a page type display in MS Word or Visio etc. Can you please tell me how does one do it ? When I use doc/view I just see one plain canvas. There is no way of showing a page.

I'm not sure. Microsoft has not made public release of the MS Word code and I haven't seen code for or written that type of interface myself.
