I am adding a system call to Linux running on kernel 3.8.0-19 generic but i have downloaded the latest stable version 3.10.9.Should I add the system call to this latest kernel and then compile it.will the difference in the two kernel versions not cause system crash or any other problem????

How could anyone answer such a question, without knowing the code, where in the kernel it goes and without running some tests.

I am just adding a simple hello world system call by creating a new makefile and adding it to the kernel.
