Im a beginner in windows app development and I need to develop "Windows 8 desktop mode applications, not Windows Store/Modern/Metro apps". So for doing so should i download visual studio express for windows 8 or visual studio 2012 for desktop.

Solution 1

You want the "for desktop" one. The only limitation is that you can't develop for Windows Store or HTML5. If you need to do that, you can always install the other one in a virtual machine or something.
