Using an owner-drawn Component that inherits from RichTextBox, you probably could make a terrible mess, yes.

What is your goal here ? Is it to overlay visual content on the RichTextBox content, as a form of annotation ? ... Or ?

Are you talking about drawing on a RichTextBox in your application and needing to have whatever you drew preserved in the .RTF file ?

Are you aware you can insert a PictureBox in an RTF file ?
