Looking for a better answer? You are going to have to give more information. What kind of "secure", secure against what? What kind of web service? What platform are you running on? What security do you have in place?

However you like. It sounds like you googled and got one way. You can restrict the IP ranges your service will talk to, or you can create some sort of key system, anything from a simple password to a more chatty and fluid system. It's up to you what you decide.
