Restrict characters more than 200 in textarea on IE 8

Hi,

I am having a textarea box. I am trying to restrict more than 200 characters in it on Internet Explorer 8. If the characters exceeds more than 200, I need to get a pop up. Trying with JavaScript. Can anyone help me out please..
