How do I parse an text into a json file in Perl?

I am trying to parse a flat file using perl and then translate those into a
JSON format so that it can be read by javascript. So far I am able to read the text file using perl, but I am very confused about the parsing part. Can anyone guide me in the right direction or help me with some links to follow
