Hello Everyone,

My name is Leyla, accountant, totally lost in this code world :)

I'm here because I dream about changing a little bit my world. I live in the south of France, I participated in a startup weekend where my project was chosen from 40 projects presented. In any case, I really believe that there is an opportunity to help the immigrant population in France and maybe in the world (you never know and after all, why not!). So that is my project. I'm super motivated because I have done many volunteer work with expats and immigrants, I know there is a real need. I been my self expats twice : in San Francisco and now in France.
You may know that the extreme droit is coming back, so really feel that I should do something. in any case, my idea is to develop an application to help accelerate the integration and to empower expats. Easy!

So I was wondering, since money isn't available right now:) how can I motive someone to work with me to develop the application. Where should I pitch my idea?
I definitely need someone who is motived by the idea, and the feeling and power of helping others.

Could you please recommend a way; a site; or how, to motivate a software developer to collaborate, be a partner, to volunteer for my project? Basically, I want to share my project with some one passionated, because alone, i not going anywhere.

Maybe this may help, I live in the south of France, in the beautiful region of Languedoc Rousillon, so I can offer a room for your next vacations and french & spanish classes.

Voila the question! thanks in advance for reading this :) I know I used to many smiling faces.

The best case is to target the "to be graduated" students in universities. They are really passionate about doing projects and you can motivate them for your app. Moreover, they would get work experience as well.

I don't think a Software Developer would work for you after he works for 8 to 10 hrs a day in a company. He/she might work, in case it creates revenue, otherwise I don't think he/she would agree.

The other way would be to find an investor for your project. I strongly believe you can find one. Meet some guys with big businesses, explain the idea to them. You can also attend any Invest Conference in your region to meet those guys as well.

Some sites or their owners do invest, but I am not aware of those. Wait for answers from other members.

Thank a lot Tadit, those are great ideas, a great start!
Most welcome. :)
Forget it. You don't even have enough respect to understand that people do not "code", they do highly creative work called software engineering and software development (of course, I mean only those who are talented, wise, hard-working and can make a super team). It sounds like you subconsciously try to mentally downplay your technical incompetence (which would not be a problem pe se) and their potential superiority by touching a specific aspect: just "speaking codish" (there is no such thing, anyway).

Your dedication and desire to help people deserves a lot of respect, but you should respect people who may become your collaborates. Your way of talking betrays you. Like may other people, you disclose your view at them as "technical personnel", and, apparently, you are afraid of their inability to learn your application field and take it seriously, hence the appeal to those who can speak technical language with them. Yes, it's a problem of many (as in every field of activity), but again, not those who can potentially make a super team. Just the opposite, you can expect them to help you to expand (clarify, develop, everything) your own vision of your own problems.

In other words, your request sounds like a clear demotivator to good talented workers. Maybe you have to think about it. And learn something.

Sorry, if I sounded disrespectful, that isn't not how i see software developers, I work with many of them, even if i don't understand their work, i see and use the results.
As i said i want a partner, someone who can complement me, because as you said I'm totally ignorant in this area. In any case, thanks for your answer and your comments, for sure I didn't want it to down play the work of anyone.

No need to apologize. It's not me, it's them. I just wanted to give you a helpful advice. The way your described the problem would demotivate such people. My advice is to take the software development work seriously, as well as people who might join you. Sorry if I sound harsh, I just though this kind criticism could be useful for you.

Just one advice: don't tell people that their work it to write code; it would sound like saying to a carpenter that his work is cutting wood with an axe. This is not what those people do (at least real masters). In response, they may tell you that your work is to write papers...

Definitely, your comments are extremely valuable for me. As an outsider, it is important to understand what you just said about "just writing a code", as an accountant I can relate to that . Your community has changed the world, I'am fully aware of that. I need to communicate better. Thanks again Sergey!

Thank you for understanding. Your acceptance of this polemic answer suggests your maturity. My pleasure.

I am doing all I can as a developer to leave Brazil and live as expat. I don't believe my eyes. I can't believe what I just read.

now, regarding the answer for your question, of course you can find someone.
Someone just like me!!!
