I am a BSIT student who is currently taking a Software Engineering class.
I am just starting my way at Java but I have very little idea what sort of application software I can develop with it.
I can make a TPS for our soft. eng. proposal using VB.NET but I wanted something that will use Java instead so I can also learn more Java in the process. However I have no idea what software to make that is realistic to my level which is a beginner in this language and in OOP in general.
Do you have any suggestions?

(By the way I'm planning to dive into Android app development in the future but for now my Java/programming knowledge is limited to just desktop programming esp. stand-alone systems)

Go ahead and learn Java, refer: 10-reasons-to-learn-java-programming[^]
Do not worry about what software you can make using Java now, just learn it well, do a lot of practices, start with simple ones. When you have sufficient knowledge, then you can tackle big project using Java.
