SSRS Multivalue Parameter from Sharepoint List Error

SP2010 SSRS 2008r2. Have parameter with 5 values that I have entered as Available Values and have entered 1 as Default. I have selected "Allow multiple values" in the parameter properties. Dataset is pulling from a Sharepoint List created in VS using Query Designer (XML). When I execute in VS or on my report server, I get:

An error occured during local report processing.
An error has occurred during report process.
Cannot add multi value query parameter 'Status' for dataset 'DataSet1' because it its not supported by the data extension.

I see this issue being discussed in SERVERAL places but have yet to see anyone actually show what is causing it and, more importantly, how to FIX it. Anyone out there have a real solution?
