how do increase the mysql connections

Currently am working on a website which uses mysql server but when it reaches maximum connections it says too many mysql connections(error),for that manually i need to increase the connections from mysql command prompt.but i need to do that as an automation as in like if the connections reaches say 100 i need to increase the no. of max connections using c# so that whenever it reaches i will execute the c# method so that it changes maximum no. of users
