Does Microsoft have plans to phase WCF out?

People in our group are discussing this.

I couldn't find anything definitive on the web.

I know that WCF Web API is now ASP.NET Web API!

http://wcf.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=WCF%20Web%20API%20is%20now%20ASP.NET%20Web%20API

Does this mean that WCF itself is being phased out?

If anyone has any insight on this, please let me know.

Thanks.

Don't you think you are asking at a wrong forum? :-)

I don't think they'll phase it out until they come up with something worse.

Good answer.
@Sergey, what forum should I ask this at?
I have a friend who works at a company acquired by Microsoft so I asked him, but he hasn't replied yet.

Do you think that people on this forum would be able to give you a right answer?

Anyhow, my guess is only as good as yours. But if you see a trend from Microsoft history, they learn from their previous product and include learnings into the next version of improved product/technology. Of course, Web API is one step towards that which includes the good things from WCF and removes the bad ones.

As long as support for WCF is concerned, it's not going anywhere any soon. However, if you look at the features and flexibility Web API provides, it makes the default choice for any new development project you are going to start.
