Phonegap localstorage scope

i am developing phonegap android hybrid application.
for that i want to use localstorage to store the values which will remain same untill it is manipulated.
will the value stored in the localstorage be persists after application closed and started again?
what is the scope of localStorage mechanism?
will it give the same behaviour in browsers and android applications?
Need help with this.
