The term ‘Engineer’ is generally meant to be one who is both professionally qualified, has relevant experience and in many cases is also a member of a recognised professional organisation. In some countries this is enshrined in law in others the term is somewhat lax, see ‘Engineer’ on Wikipedia for the full story.
I would maintain that without relevant qualifications and experience the title should be technician, mechanic or developer.

Of course many of us are properly qualified, as am I, sadly that is not the case with many Software 'engineers'. My point was to question the term 'Engineer' in this context without the alternatives.

I myself being Dyslexic have no problem with people making spelling mistakes. The people that should be responsible for this are the software testers / proof readers.
I would like the world at general to stop being hung up on spelling and concentrate more on created content.
Write what you feel and not be held back by only using very simple words because you are not confident. Being slammed down by less creative colleagues who think they are better than you because they can spell is very destructive.Why is it when you are busy everyone whats it yesterday, But when your not no-one has any work for you?

With spell checkers available in just about every editor except notepad, there's no reason to have any hang ups at all about spelling, whether you're an author or a proof reader.
As an author and someone interested in improving myself, I enjoy learning the correct spelling of words. For example, I repeatedly spell "weird" with the i and e reversed, but thanks to the spell checker, I'm learning how to spell that word correctly.

Doesn't seem to have anything to do with confidence. Frankly, this seems like your issue, which is totally understandable being dyslexic, and isn't meant as a criticism, just that you're therefore sensitive about this issue.

That's pretty harsh. I guess you've had some pretty unpleasant experiences. Keep in mind though that this is a professional site, and clearly someone is dropping the ball in maintaining the level of professionalism that, I think, is obligatory.

I'd have to agree with Ben. It's the "build a bike shed" dillemna, people nitpick on the things they do understand so they can appear witty and insightful. In reality they come across as pedantic. One would hope that person never makes a typo because the same standards will be helad againstem.
