Maximum URL length in internet explorer

Internet explorer 7 (IE 7) supports maximum of 2047 characters long URL

today a question raised in my mind that what is the maximum supported length of any URL in browser.
i just checked out in internet explorer 7 and found that IE7 supports only 2047 characters in address box it will automatically truncate rest of characters.
