As a non-American the word store to me means a place where things are kept. Our army have weapon stores and you sure cant buy a land mine there.
A shop is a place where retail activity occurs. When I hear "Apple store" I think of a room full of boxes of apples.
Anyways....I went to the Apple Store a little while ago to see about getting one of these new iPhones. I was served by a teenager who was chewing gum, bopping to the god awful music (do they hand out disco pills every morning?) and told me I needed to have a shopping appointment (interestingly not a storing appointment by thats irrelevant). I asked to make one only to be told I had to do it on line. People queue up for this sh*t?

Back when I got my iPhone, I asked a "genius" at the genius bar if I could program for the iPhone using my Windows PC. He said something along the lines of "yeah, sure, I don't think they would lock you down to just the Mac." Not liking that response, I asked "well can you make sure of that?" So he goes and askes one of his fellow geniuses and comes back to say "no, I guess you can't." Those geniuses sure are diligent!

Why do people call data metadata. I really hate this, they start going on about the "metadata" and I automatically start thinking about data types and data lengths, encoding and stuff like that when what they actually mean data.
It is not impressive and does not make you sound clever. What using the word incorrectly does is when you talk to someone with database knowledge it makes you look like you do not know what you are talking about.
But most importantly it annoys me. There you go. My first rant.
