Tried installing Delphi 2005. Yeah, right.

NO custom installation.

Requires .NET 1.1 and the SDK, IE 6, and JRE something or other. NOT xxx or later. Specific versions.

'If you want to write .NET programs, you need...' Well, I don't want to write .NET programs with it. Installation cancels itself.

'If you want to write J# programs, you need...' Well, I don't want to write J# programs. Installation cancels itself.

All or nothing. Borland deserved exactly what it got.

It probably wouldn't have worked, anyway. The activation would probably just go out into the ether somewhere.

They used to make the best tools in the world...Turbo Debugger comes to mind.

I still miss their Profiler, it was so easy to use.

I feel that in the pre-.NET days, Delphi was simply great. I've worked with Delphi 5 and 7; and they were wonderful, including installation. But, with the advent of .NET support in Delphi, things went haywire.

Borland C++ on DOS was the last thing I used from Borland. A mouse cursor on a DOS screen was an attraction that time.

Starting to think people post kid pics in their profiles because that was the last time they were cute - Jeremy.

Borland died after the intro of Delphi 7.

"Delphi 2005" carries the name of the product, but is developed by Embarcado. No free versions since. Haven't touched it since.

--edit;
..and yes, I do miss the option to compile my own Base Class Library.
