      <p>The DELETE command is used to delete records from a table. When youu 
        execute a delete, the records are marked as deleted. They are actually 
        removed from the table only when you issue the <a href="sql_o.htm">OPTIMIZE</a> 
        command. It is important to optimize your table if your application deletes 
        too many rows. </p>
      <p>Syntax:<br>
        <font color="#990000">DELETE FROM table WHERE condition</font></p>
      <p>eg:<br>
        <code>DELETE FROM books WHERE date_of_pub < '1980-2-2'</code></p>
