No, it isn't, they just erroneously think it is. Anonymous downvotes mean absolutely nothing, other than that the voter is a dick, and has not the courage to enter into a proper discussion. And they do us no harm whatsoever.

One way to help people feel better would be if the debator rep score was totally cancelled. If down votes and up votes on non-technical forum posts don't matter, then why tally it up and display it on profiles?
Not 100% sure about this, but I've been noticing that even though an article is voted (based on information on rep history), the vote counter doesn't seem to increase. This doesn't happen always, just for some votes.
