Java on .NET. Visual J++ lives! Microsoft have announced the Java User Migration Path to Microsoft .NET (JUMP to .NET. JUMP to .NET allows Java developers to write applications targeting the .NET runtime easily. The new tools provide

  • full Interoperability between Java and .NET
  • Simple migration for Visual J++ apps
  • Programming tools and Visual Studio integration
  • A tool for automatic conversion from Java to C#
A beta is expected to be available in the first half of 2001, and the settlement with Sun (see below) means that Microsoft will be continuing to ship and support Visual J++. Read the full story. Microsoft and Sun settle Microsoft has agreed to pay Sun $20 million to settle their bitter 3 year dispute over the Java language. The settlement allows Microsoft to use Java in it's current products, plus those currently undergoing testing, for the next 7 years. Future Microsoft products cannot use Java.
