how to migrate oracle 11g from Workgroup network to Active Directory

Hello everyone,

I have an instance of oracle 11g server installed on a workgroup network server,
it was perfect. A few days ago, I had been forced to install Active directory on that server, and then oracle seems to be dead.

services does not starting except the listener services. I used the 'net configuration assistant' to set it to use active directory, but still it doesn't work.

I searched the web a lot, but the most results are for the time that you didn't install the oracle yet.

i will appreciate if you can help me out.

Did the IP address of your server change? I faced many probelms when that happened...
Does the Oracle service run with the account of a (local) user of the server?

No, no IP changed and I have changed the service account to the domain controller Administrator and still not starting

You could have left the service accounts as "Local System" without any problems. It's not the service accounts that's your problem.

When you install Oracle it asks you for an account to use as a database administrator. This usually is the local administrator account.
Which doesn't exist anymore as you have installed active directory on your database server.

This account is belonging to a security group called ora_dba, that has all the file security set for the database files and the files needed to run many parts of Oracle.
This security group doesn't exist anymore as you have installed active directory on your database server.

The DBA account also needs a few other specific rights set to be able to work properly.
If you open up the "Local Security Policy" on your computer, which you find under "Administrative Tools", this DBA account needs to have the right to "Lock pages in memory", "Logon as batch job" and "Logon as service" besides being a local administrator.
But guess what, "Local Security Policy" doesn't exist on a domain controller.

Installing Active Directory is something that should never be done on a database server, ever! For many more reasons than that you f*** up your system. (I'll leave the explanation for that to google)

Solution one. Remove active directory, if you haven't messed up any other settings it will automagically work again.
Solution two. Hire an Oracle DBA to fix the mess.
