In this series, we’ll take a detailed look at the four stages of the developer journey, providing examples of how developers have both struggled and succeeded.

This article is in the Product Showcase section for our sponsors at CodeProject. These articles are intended to provide you with information on products and services that we consider useful and of value to developers.

The Internet of Things (IoT) has captured our imagination. What began as a simple concept - to connect everyday objects to the internet so they can send and receive data - has matured into a world of Jetsonian proportions. Thermostats that program themselves. Gardening systems that monitor environmental conditions. Traffic lights that adapt to changing traffic patterns. Innovation is everywhere. And with 50 billion smart devices expected by 2020, every industry is up for grabs.

There’s never been a better time to be a developer. Sophisticated tools, standard protocols, and smaller capital requirements are all contributing to an ecosystem full of potential. More importantly, there’s a sense of camaraderie. A shared understanding that we’re all in this together. Still, developers come in all shapes and sizes. Some work in large corporations, others in two-person startups. Some have been tinkering for years, while others may have just attended their first Maker Faire. Regardless of where you are as a developer, there’s a road to be traveled.

In this series, we’ll take a detailed look at the four stages of the developer journey, providing examples of how developers have both struggled and succeeded.

Learning & Experimentation: Before building, it’s best to do a little self-assessment. For those just getting started with IoT, this is a time to discover how your existing software skills can best be applied to new projects, while the more experienced builder will see this as an opportunity to dig deeper into Intel’s platform.

Design & Planning: Sky’s the limit. Initial concepts are discussed and debated, sketched and scrapped, so that developers can gut check their ideas prior to moving forward.

Execution & Build: This is that magical moment when those initial concepts, now flushed out and solidified, transform into functional prototypes. It’s demo time.

Go-to-Market & Scale: Is this a viable product? Does it scale? Are there industry specific certificates that are required for safety or security? The final stage demands we look at our products, and our business plan, and determine whether they have what it takes to make it to market.

From prototype to product is a long journey. By taking a 360 degree view at Intel, we hope to offer our experience and insight to better prepare you for each step along the path.
