For many months now, TDL has been exhibiting this bug intermittently: when an entry with a rich text comment field is selected, the file becomes marked as 'Modified', and the Save button becomes active. Selecting entries with simple text comment fields does not change the 'modified' status.
Also, when the last highlighted entry before closing ToDoList has a rich text field, reopening TDL causes the file to be modified. No issues with entries with simple text comments.
It is also worth noting that this bug is intermittent. I am certain TDL 7.1 also has this bug, and maybe 7.0.
In summary, to trigger the bug (not always reproducible), either:
- select an entry with a rich text comment
- start ToDoList with such an entry selected before shutting down
Hope this is of some help.

Hi alexanderino and thanks for your report.
You are correct that this is an old issue which I had hoped I had fixed. However 7.2.DP8 includes a big refactor of the comments field so it's also possible I have re-introduced it.
Are you using Windows 10? From memory the problem as I experienced it related to the 'Inline Spell-checking' that Windows 10 provides to rich text fields.
If so, can you try disabling the spell checking via the rich text toolbar or the field's context menu and then seeing if the problem re-occurs?

Hi Dan,
thanks for the response.
- I use TDL on two computers — one Windows 7 Professional x64, the other Windows 8.1 Professional x64. The bug is present in both, but not always. Right now, I'm on the Win 7 machine, and TDL is behaving well
- For what it's worth, TDL's spell-check is also disabled
- I have not run it on Windows 10, so have not used its inbuilt spell-checking
Hope that is of some use. Happy to help, as always.

Updated to 7.2.DP9 yesterday. I understand the changelog does not show this is fixed, however I noticed that:
- on the Win7 x64 PC, the bug didn't appear at all
- on the Win 8.1 x64 PC, the bug occurred with regularity
This may be of help.

Thx, I'll focus on Win8.1/10 for now.

An update [7.2.DP9]:
- On Win 8.1 x64, a pattern is emerging:
- Simple text comments are OK
- Rich Text comments with no formatting are OK; but
- almost any Rich Text comment with bullet points, italics, bold, colour, etc., triggers the 'unsaved' status (some RT comments created in 2012 with no markup triggered it, and one from 2013 with markup did not)
- On Win7 x64, the bug has still not surfaced since my last report.
On a tangential note, there's a tooltip bug on entries with long comments -- at the bottom, it turns to gibberish. This is on Win 8.1, and I am sure it occurs on Win7 -- if not, shall update later. Most probably unrelated, but one never knows ...

The bottom of the tooltip. After about 1 KB worth of text (maybe also markup), the tooltip devolves into what's seen in the screencap.

Hi fellow TDLers and of course dan.g. - So I see someone else asked about changing the creation date at the time of creation - and your answer was a UDT script.
I would like to write a UDT that takes the contents of the Creation Date field for a task already created - and copy that to another field (such as External ID). In fact I'd like to do this for multiple selected tasks if possible. (Creation date is not available for editing or even selection within TDL afaik).
Is there a reference/resource listing all the commands variables etc and syntax how to build UDTs? (or is it based on a common coding syntax?). For instance how do I reference the External ID field?
Any suggestions gratefully received!

Hi Jon
Unfortunately there's no current way to copy attributes via a UDT but I am up for implementing this in 7.2 (currently in pre-release).
Jon753 wrote: Is there a reference/resource listing all the commands variables etc and syntax how to build UDTs? Yes[^].
In addition to this, if you create UDTs referencing 'ToDoList.exe' then you can use any of the available commandline pptions[^] to modify tasks.

OK, thanks. If you have time to squeeze this into the next revision it would be cool for me - my only beef is the items that are not directly editable - in my case the creation date.
For me another option is 'export then re-import' but that's a bit heavy-handed at present.
In the meantime I will go back to skool and learn more about UDTs since they seem very useful generally...

Jon753 wrote: my only beef is the items that are not directly editable I hear you, but if it was editable then it would no longer represent the actual date the task was created, and hence it would no longer be the 'Creation' date.

Oh yes, I agree. But when I said editable I mean you can't (afaik) even copy that field?

How to flag a task so I can filter it in the "show" options "d) Flagged tasks"?
|
|
|

You must first make the 'Flag' column visible: View > Task Attribute Visibility...

Hi,
I have encountered a problem.
When I mark a task it will disappear and I can see it only by "undo".
It never did this.
What is wrong?
UPDATE: I have found the "problem":

Hello Dan,
Drag and drop in comments seems to be working as copy and paste now, instead of cut and paste: the dragged text remains in the original place after being dropped in another spot.
Thanks.

Thx NT, I can reproduce this.
Seems to be a problem in both 7.2.DP and 7.1 in the Rich Text comments only.

Hello Dan,
I'm using ToDoList 7.2.DP7.
In dynamic-data, multi-selection droplists in custom task attribute columns, unchecking a task's previously-applied tag alone doesn't remove it. The only way to do so seems to be to apply a second tag, and then uncheck the first one.
Thank you for looking into the problem.
