Intel® Galileo Board Assembly using Arduino

Requirements

  • An Intel® Galileo Gen 1 or Gen 2 Board
  • One 5V DC power supply (for Gen 1) or one 7-15V DC power supply (for Gen 2). It should have come with your board.
  • One micro-USB cable
  • A Windows*, OS X*, or Linux* computer

These instructions are for using the Intel Galileo board with Arduino, looking for instructions on how to use it with the IntelXDK IoT Edition or the Eclipse* IDE?

Setup

  1. If you have a micro-SD card in your board, remove it.
  2. Plug in the power supply to your board. Always plug in the power supply before the USB cable.
  3. Plug in the micro-USB cable to your board's USB client port and the other end to your computer.

Install and Run Firmware Updater tool

These instructions are for using the Intel Galileo board with Arduino, looking for instructions on how to use it with the IntelXDK IoT Edition or the Eclipse* IDE?

  1. Download and unzip the appropriate Intel Galileo Firmware Updater for either Windows, OS X, or Linux.
  2. (For Windows Only) Install the driver by following these steps.
    1. Open the Device Manager. (From the Start menu, open up the Control Panel and select System and Security on Win7. Device Manager is in the System group.)
    2. In Ports (COM & LPT), you should see an open port named Gadget Serial V2.4 (if the board contains an old release like v0.7.5) or simply Galileo on newer releases.
    3. Right-click on the Gadget Serial V2.4 or Galileo port and choose the Update Driver Software option.
    4. Select Browse my computer for driver software.
    5. Navigate to the location of the Intel Galileo Firmware Updater folder, inside the Galileo driver folder you'll find the linux-cdc-acm.inf file. Select it.
    6. Once the driver is successfully installed, the Device Manager will show a Galileo (COMx) device under Ports (COM & LPT), as shown below.

  3. Inside the Intel Galileo Firmware Updater, select the port of your board. For Windows it will be the COM port found above. For OS X i will be /dev/cu.usbmodem.... For Linux it will be ttyACM....
  4. Select Update Firmware. Then it will ask you to confirm that you have your power supply connected. Once started, the update process will take approximately 5 minutes.

Now that you've connected your board and updated your firmware, proceed to Install the Arduino* IDE instructions.
