Hi,
I want to improve the following query's performance executing on sqlce.
select *
from TABLE_A
where field_a in (select field_a
from TABLE_B
where field_b = '0000162080'
and field_c = '2'
and field_d = '011')
order by field_e
Table_A has index for field_a and Table_B has index for field_b and field_c. How can I rewrite the query to execute faster?
thanks,

Try creating an index on the field_a column.

I spent all weekend trying to find out how I can connect from my PC to my Nokia N70 device. I specifically want to access the messaging functionality on the device from my own software. This search proved frustrating and nearly fruitless. In most cases, this can be done using the phone as a straight modem, and using AT commands, but the Series 60 phones don't support AT commands.
I have to find out how to connect Windows to Symbian, and possibly create a service that runs on the phone and processes requests from a PC client. OK, how do I actually connect to the phone? Using Sockets? What is the address of the phone?

I have an data-acquisition application in which data-logging is performed constantly and data is stored in a CF Card, which acts as the primary data-storage device for the system.
The Windows CE image that i have loaded has support for automatic detection of USB mass storage devices.
The User can retrive the data from the system (CF Card) thru USB Drive.
There is no screen or console , it is an industrial Controller.
The data acquistion goes on constantly , and the application periodically polls the USB slot to see if the user has inserted any USB Drive in it.
For this, i use the standard CreateFile() function in order to detect if the user has inserted USB Pen Drive into USB slot or not. I get the handle to the device using CreateFile(), is user has inserted it. If he has, then all reqd. data from the CF Card is copied to the USB drive.
if ((hFile=CreateFile(_TEXT"DSK2:",GENERIC_WRITE,
FILE_SHARE_READ|FILE_SHARE_WRITE, NULL,
OPEN_EXISTING,
FILE_ATTRIBUTE_NORMAL, NULL))!=INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE)
{Do further processing}
NOTE: Here DSK2: is the disk number of the Pen Drive
Whenever the user insertes the USB Drive, the OS detects this, and CreateFile function therefore returns successfully with the USB dive handle. Thus, USB Drive is detected.
Now, the problem is that sometimes, although the Pen Drive is inserted, it is not detected by the OS, whearas at other times it is. That is, in the Windows Explorer, where I can see the CF Card mounted as "Hard Disk" and USB Pen Drive as "Hard Disk2", sometimes, this "Hard Disk2" is not seen. It leads me to the conclusion that the USB Dive is not mounted by the Windows Device Manager. Even if i remove the Pen Drive and re-insert it, it will not be detected hence-forth , once it is not detected. I don't know how to make the OS detect it then , the only way i know is rebooting the system. (Which is definetely not the solution!!)
What can possibly be causing this irregular behavior?
At such times, I cannot obtain a handle to the device using CreateFile. Is there any alternate way to obtain access to the USB device, rather than relying on Windows OS, and the Device Manager??
I have also completely checked the hardware, to verify that there is no problem on hardware side, no loose connections etc. Another important point is that the LED on the USB Pen Drive always glows when I insert the Pen Drive, even when it is not detected by Windows CE.
Regards,
CR

I am currently writing a smartphone app in vb (VS 2005) to deploy at several of our sites. The app will track connectivity to determine if a mobile solution (working in a connected environment) will be feasible and will also be used to gather user feedback with regard to the specific device and ease of use. I can use the State and Notification Broker API to determine available connections (and I have a webservice to test whether or not I have a good enough connection to perform a unit of work), however, I'd also like to track a users location within a building (ie which access point is being used at a given interval) to evaluate connectivity within various locations around the building. Is there any way to track which AP is used?

Hey anyone,
I have a little problem with Double Buffering under Windows Mobile 2003 with C#/.NET CF
In contrast to desktop computers I have no possibility too use SetStyle to let the framework do the double buffering.
And when I work with bitmaps to buffer everything, it remains flickering. Examples from CodeProject don't work either on my pocket, I guess it's because I cannot override the UserControl's PaintBackground Event, since there is none to override. At least I have only one strong flicker instead of continous painting.
Any suggestions? Or any hint how to realize it under Windows Mobile?
Thanks in advance!

I do double buffering on Windows Mobile 2003 devices. It works well. Show your code and I might be able to help you.

Of course you can override the PaintBackground event.
protected override void OnPaintBackground(PaintEventArgs e)
{
// Do nothing
}

I want to buy a device with the Windows Mobile 2003 SE and Windows Mobile 5.0. Please, read full history here[^].
My question is: I can to install (upgrade, update or run side-by-side) .Net Compact Framework 2.0 in a Windows Mobile 2003 SE or Windows Mobile 5.0 device?
As run "side-by-side" I mean maintain the existing .Net Compact Framework version, and install another framework. Like in my desktop computer, that have installed:
.Net 1.0
.Net 1.1
.Net 2.0
.Net 3.0
.Net 3.5
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.(John 3:16)

Yes, you can install Compact Framework 1.0 and 2.0 side-by-side. Microsoft claim, however, that if CF 2.0 is installed, CF 1.0 is not necessary. See for example here[^]. Note that both Windows Mobile 2003 SE and Windows Mobile 5.0 have .NET CF 1.0 in ROM, but these might not be the latest versions.
We recently discovered that a Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Phone Edition device we're using suffers from 'DLL crunch'. This is where a process allocates enough memory for data that there is not enough space left to load any more DLLs. For more information on this issue see Windows CE .NET Advanced Memory Management[^] in MSDN Library. In our case it was actually device.exe, the process that hosts drivers, that was failing, and this caused all sorts of odd problems.
One of the issues here was that we were loading .NET Compact Framework 2.0 SP1 and SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition (SQL Server CE) from persistent storage rather than the ROM version, which is CF 1.0. CF 2.0 SP1 and SQLCE come to about 3MB of DLLs all by themselves, which is enough to move from the out-of-box configuration on this device to the DLL Crunch state. Part of the problem is that Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Phone Edition now has so many, large, execute-in-place (XIP) DLLs that they've overflowed the 32MB area added in Windows CE 4.0 (discussed in the linked article) and started consuming a large part of your process address space again, leaving only around 18MB free for the application.
For this reason it might be sensible to stick with CF 1.0, but note that CF 1.0 is seriously cut-down compared to the desktop. CF 2.0 is a bit better in this regard.

Hi,
I have an ASUS P535 and I have a problem with GPS. If I use TomTom Navigator, I don't have any problem, but if I use the gps sample from Microft I have the next problem:
- Sample project: Microsoft.WindowsMobile.Sample.Location (ProgramFiles\Windows CE Tools\wce500\Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC SDK\Samples\Cs\Gps)
- Error: In the function WaitForGpsEvents the code stop indefinitily WaitForMultipleObjects
- The Microsoft sample, haven't any problem in HTC P3300
- The code and error:
private void WaitForGpsEvents()
{
lock (this)
{
bool listening = true;
IntPtr handles = Utils.LocalAlloc(12);
Marshal.WriteInt32(handles, 0, stopHandle.ToInt32());
Marshal.WriteInt32(handles, 4, deviceStateChangedHandle.ToInt32());
Marshal.WriteInt32(handles, 8, newLocationHandle.ToInt32());
while (listening)
{
int obj = WaitForMultipleObjects(3, handles, 0, -1); (!!!!!ERROR STOP HERE indefinitely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).
if (obj != waitFailed)
{
switch (obj)
...
{
case 0:
// we've been signalled to stop
listening = false;
break;
case 1:
// device state has changed
if (deviceStateChanged != null)
{
deviceStateChanged(this, new DeviceStateChangedEventArgs(GetDeviceState()));
}
break;
case 2:
// location has changed
if (locationChanged != null)
{
locationChanged(this, new LocationChangedEventArgs(GetPosition()));
}
break;
}
}
}
// free the memory we allocated for the native handles
Utils.LocalFree(handles);
// clear our gpsEventThread so that we can recreate this thread again
// if the events are hooked up again.
gpsEventThread = null;
}
}
Some idea or solution?
Thank you

Does the Asus provide gps sharing through a virtual port scheme. If so this may be your problem. The workaround would be to implement your own polling and NMEA sentence data parsing routine.
I experienced a problem on an HP Travel Companion with the serial port data received events when the virtual port feature was being used. The virtual port feature is intended for sharing of the gps port by multiple applications.
When I disabled the feature and accessed the port directly the data received event was fired. If I enabled the feature I had to use a polling routine to get the serial port data.
I do not think that this is a bug. I am not sure how I would implement a data received event for multiple listeners when using virtual ports.
