I'm a newbie trying to develop a client application to connect via a socket to a device connected on COM1. If I connect to a server on my host machine the standard SDK emulator connects OK. When I specify the device IP address that is connected to COM1 and try to connect to it, the emulator fails to connect.
Any help is appreciated !

Hello there,
In some occasions I used to use the Beep function in my programs for fast and easy sound-generation. I noticed now however that that doesn^t seem to be supported by PocketPC`s.. Is there an easy alternative for that?
In other words is there an easy way to sound a beep without having a wav file or any other sound file?

Davy

I am new to the world of Pocket PC's and I have downloaded several example projects from the net only to find they will not load.
I am using Embedded VC++ 4 and the projects that don't load have the 'vcw' extension. They report many files that cannot be found, mostly .h and .rh, and .ico, then the compile option is greyed out on the menu.
What am I doing wrong? Any ideas?
Many Thanks,
Ali

I have to use legacy C code, where functions understand nothing else but char*
So the question is, what is the best way to convert the char* to unicode strings, to be displayed in a message box, or set in an CEdit control for example.

You can use the A2W macro but remember to state USES_CONVERSION within the function that uses the macro.
USES_CONVERSION;
...
wide = A2W(ascii);
...
Hope that helps

as i know, we may use image data type to deal with blob.
but the problem is, how can i insert the bytes to the database??
i have tried the follow code segment, but it doesn't work
SqlCeCommand addPic = conn.CreateCommand();
addPic.CommandText = "INSERT INTO photoTable (Photo) VALUES(@Photo)";
SqlCeParameter picParam = addPic.Parameters.Add("@Photo", SqlDbType.Image);
picParam.Value = GetPhoto(photoFilePath);
public static byte[] GetPhoto(string filePath)
{
FileStream fs = new FileStream(filePath, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read);
BinaryReader br = new BinaryReader(fs);
byte[] photo = br.ReadBytes((int)fs.Length);
br.Close();
fs.Close();
return photo;
}

Does anyone know of a company that makes instrumentation widgets / gadgets for the CE .Net 4.2 platform? I'm looking for controls (LED indicators, bar graphs, analog gauges, etc.) that I can have run in an operator interface (LCD panel) used on a manufacturing plant floor. The application in the operator interface is being developed in embedded Visual C++. Thanks for any help!

Dear all,
I had developed a software that use Pocket Access database but the database
file for Pocket PC 2002 does not work with Pocket PC 2003 and vice versa.
My question is how to make a setup program that can detect which version of
the OS on Pocket PC and install an appropriate database file on it?
Thank you very much in advance.

Hi all,
In C#.NET(compact framework), how to launch an slave application from a master application, then the master applicaton can close the slave master if the slave application is not needed anymore ?
And how to pass information between the two applications?
Thanks

Hi all,
Is C# a good tool for programming application in pocket pc
device ? Will the performance in execution speed be a problem ?
Also, can a application built by C#.net be run on Pocket PC 2000
and Pocket PC 2002 platform (any additional .net runtime needed to install on the device before the installation of the application) ?

What kind of application are you thinking about?
pyhtang1 wrote:

Depends on what you are ready to trade off for speed. C# applications will always run slower than C++ ones.

You can install the .Net Compact Framework on older machines, for sure. I know it is possible on 2002 machines, but not so sure for 2000.

Ok I got this warning after building my project:
warning C4925: INTERNAL COMPILER WARNING - Tree node(s) not freed
Please choose the Technical Support command on the Visual C++
Help menu, or open the Technical Support help file for more information
When I look at MSDN the warning C4925 says:
Compiler Warning (level 3) C4925
'function': non-virtual member function marked as 'final'; ignored the qualifier 'final'
The final keyword was found on a non-virtual member function. The final keyword is only allowed on virtual member functions within a class.
The following generates C4925:
class B {
public:
final void f1(); // C4925
};
void main() {}
But I aint got at any point the keywork `final`in my program...
Does anyone have any experience with this warning???
The program seems to run correctly though, but who knows what kind of strange behaviour might occur due to this warning....
Thanks for any help...

I'm trying to create my first project, but I can't select all of the CPUs in the drop down list.
Why do some of them grey out and some don't?
Thanks
|
|
|

It depends on the SDK support for the CPUs. For instance, Pocket PC SDKs will only support ARM and emulator.

hello everyone. I am in deep sh*t now. i have to develop a biometric authentication system which apply neural network algorithm , that is using handwritten signatures to authenticate users instead of combination of user id and passwords. I do not even know which language to use, some told me MATLAB, some said VB. so can anyone give guidance or sample source code to me so that i do not need to start from scratch since the time is running out.
thanks a lot and please help pass this message around so that i can have more things to refer

It sounds like :
1. You have chosen the biometric - signatures.
2. That you are going to train a NN to recognize signatures.
Given this, it sounds like you just need to search for open source NN code.
Likely be able to google for sample code in any language you want.
Some of the questions that come to my mind are :
- What is the authentication for ? Logging in, proving that a particular person signed a document, ... . In either case PKI is likely much more appropriate.
- Do you have to use a signature as the metric, can you use fingerprints or retinal scans ?
- Do you have to use a NN for matching ?
...cmk

thanks to u cmk, yes, u r rite, i have to search open source code for NN n train NN matching. Too bad i can't find any source code available online. That makes me so frustrated. so it will be great if you can provide me the related source codes or useful link.
Its a program for logging in. Anyhow, i just intend to build a program that can store handwritten signatures and compare with input data later, n thats it.
thanks folks.

wei thank u very much cmk, i owe u once. That link u gave me indeed helped me on the problem. thanks again n hope u have a nice day. mind giving me email address? i think we could be friends and discuss programming matters from time to time.

I'm a developer with the new protocol IPv6, and I've surprised when I see that the actually compact framework doesn't support this protocol. I think that It's a big error by microsoft because if Pocket PC 2003 support ipv&, compact framework also should support it.
I'd like, if any way for create a socket connection with ipv6, in .NET?
Thanks for all!!

Hi ALL,
I need to access the Windows CE SQL server using OLEDB API's.
Is there any OLEDB c++ warapper class for communicating to the Windows CE SQL server 2.x ?
Suggestions are most welcome.
