So, their government ignored multiple warnings from one or more of India's intelligence agencies, and then went on to ignore warnings from their own intelligence agency. I cannot believe that a tragedy of this proportion has happened, and could have rather been averted if only their government did something about these warnings.
An investigation should be carried out by an independent agency, and a report made available on why their government ignored these warnings, because this is no small matter. But given their corrupt government and their abysmal human rights records (civil war), I think that absolutely nothing will be done.
their government ignored multiple warnings from one or more of India's intelligence agencies
No, none of the articles/news said the warnings were "ignored". But SL certainly did fail to avert the attacks. And it was not just Indian intelligence, they were told of active extremists networks there and imminent attacks months before by several other agencies as well.
And I really hope they didn't just ignore those warnings. Because if they did, there must be legal consequences upon them.
They admitted about the inaction on these warnings
Citation needed. From what I know, they only accepted their failure to avert the attacks despite of having been given specific warnings.
The SL president has asked the Defense secretary and the police chief to resign.
The President is holding the defence portfolio there and doesn't go well with the Prime Minister and said the warnings were not passed up to him. I could't find any reference that directly said the security officials who received the warning completely ignored them and didn't do anything.
I really hope you to be wrong about this because if that's true, it would mean a complete end-to-end system failure that the victims paid heavy price for. It's horrible in all ways.
Sri Lankan authorities received a warning from Indian intelligence about possible attacks on April 4, and that this information was shared at a Security Council meeting, chaired by President Maithripala Sirisena, on April 7 but was not shared further.
And I really hope they didn't just ignore those warnings. Because if they did, there must be legal consequences upon them
This isn't a country that plays by the rules. They committed genocides during their civil war, and murdered children in cold blood. Kinda hard to bring upon any "legal consequences" upon them when their government itself is a sham.
